Jack Miller realized that companies needed to buy office supplies. He borrowed $2,000 from his father-in-law and opened a small “warehouse” using a back room of his father’s poultry shop in 1956.

In 1998, Staples acquired Quill for $685 million. Quill remains one of Staples most profitable subsidiaries.

In 2007, JD Powers recognizes Quill for providing Outstanding Customer Service.

In 2008, Quill launched “the green scene” initiative with environmentally friendly products and business practices.

In 2015, the company picked up green kitchenware manufacturer TrueChoicePack.

The platform compares rental car prices from most major companies, such as Hertz, National, Avis, Alamo, and Dollar Rent a Car. The company states that reservations can be canceled up to 48 hours without penalty and that they will price match if you should find a lower price elsewhere.

The car rental comparison platform market is expected to record massive growth in the next 5 years.

In 2020, BigCommerce went public on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol BIGC.

In September 2022, the company expanded its Crypto ecosystem by allowing companies to accept BitPay and Coinpayments.

BeerBat, which makes Bat shaped drinkware for businesses such as the Hard Rock Cafe, turned to BigCommerce in 2022 to help drive sales and found that revenue increased 115% in a single year.

The company specializes in clothing such as T-shirts, tank tops, water bottles, hats, flags, keychains, stickers, and more via an active online e-commerce store.

Whalen recently come under scrutiny when his company was fined by the FTC in August 2022 for removing “Made in China” or other country tags and replacing them with “Made in the USA” tags.

Founder and CEO Sean Whalen claims that this isn’t true and tries to explain what happened in this video.

In December 2021, the company announced that they were placing a new president and COO, Dan Caldwell, in its Utah office.

The company’s first commercial implementations kicked off in 2000 when the small group of dental schools piloted the use of an early course materials solution, DVDs that held full digital versions of each student’s entire four years of textbooks, workbooks, lectures slides, manuals, and handbooks. The digital curriculum was updated each semester and stayed with students after graduation as a professional resource.

In July 2006, the company was acquired by Ingram Content Group. VitalSource now acts as a subsidiary of Ingram Industries.

In June 2021, Ingram Industries sold VitalSource to Francisco Partners, a private equity group, for an undisclosed amount.

In 2019, the company partnered with Barne’s & Noble Education to expand access to and implement BNED’s “FirstDay” Inclusive Access program, which gives students access to course materials by or before the first day of class each term.

In August 2022, VitalSource began carrying Labster’s complete portfolio of science lab simulations.
