Frontier Airlines was founded in 1994 by executives of Continental Airlines when it went out of business in 1993. Frontier began flying out of Denver and is considered to be one of the ultra-low-cost airlines in America today.

History

The company also allows customers to plan and book flights,  book car rentals, and make hotel reservations online, as well to manage travel plans via their online service. Frontier Airlines provides its services to various destinations in the United States and internationally.

In early 2015, the company announced that it would be servicing several destinations out of Atlanta, including a major route expansion out of Atlanta including Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Orlando.

In August 2022, the company announced that it was adding 10 new nonstop flights out of Phoenix, Arizona. 

In July 2022, Frontier attempted to acquire Spirit airlines but the deal fell apart. JetBlue made an offer that Frontier wasn’t willing to match. This allowed JetBlue to acquire Spirit for $3.8 billion.

Eastern Mountain Sports was founded in 1967 by two climbers, Alan McDonough and Roger Furst. This pair decided to target the outdoor and camping market in the Boston, Massachusetts area and opened their first store in Wellesley. Today, the company has more than 70 locations and employs approximately 1,300 full time employees. The company had annual revenue in 2014 of $330 million.

Eastern Mountain Sports specializes in outdoor sports and camping equipment, clothing, and footwear. Most locations offer classes in everything from mountain climbing to downhill skiing, kayaking to stand up paddle boarding.

The company was purchased in 2012 by Versa Capital Management. The company filed for bankruptcy in April of 2016 and announced that while they would reorganize and retain Eastern Mountain Sports and Bob’s Stores, it would be closing all of its Sport Chalet locations.

Founded in 1986 in Honolulu, Hawaii, by Michael and Sandra Hartley. Hartley received 3,000 airline tickets as a payment for services and decided to sell them “cheaply” via classified ad’s. After selling these tickets in less than 2 weeks, Hartley began to purchase seats from airlines in advance at a lower price, which he could then resell for slightly more than he paid, while remaining underneath regular airline ticket pricing.

History

The company launched its first call center in Honolulu in 1987, later opening up centers in Florida, California, and Colorado. This online travel service company was purchased in 2006 by Expedia, Inc.

Today, Cheap Tickets sells airline tickets, car rentals, hotel and vacation rentals, as well as customized vacation packages and cruise trip package deals.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, many people have found it difficult, if not impossible, to receive refunds for flights and a bill designed to change that has been sitting in the Senate since May with zero movement.

Red Roof Inn was founded in 1972 by Jim Trueman in Columbus, Ohio. Trueman believed most hotel chains were overpriced. He wanted to provide a clean, decent place for people to sleep without overcharging. Trueman used to pass out T-shirts that read “Sleep Cheap”, along with a picture of a hotel with a red roof.

History

Accor purchased the company in 1999 for $1.115 billion. Accor added 324 locations before selling the company in April of 2007 for $1.3 billion to Citigroup Global Special Situations Group and Westbridge Hospitality Fund LP.

The third Red Roof Inn still stands in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was built in 1973. The company has been remodeling all locations in 2012 at a cost of $200 million. Red Roof Inns have approximately 600 locations across the U.S. and employ more than 4,500 persons.

Despite the Covid pandemic, Red Roof Inns continues to build new locations, including the Weedsport, New York, location which opened in May 2022.

The company specializes in work and casual clothing and shoes for men and women. Duluth Trading Company sells their products under various trademarks such as Alaskan Hardgear, Bucket Master, and Dry on the Fly.
