California Pacific Airlines Corporate Office

California Pacific Airlines was founded in 2009 by San Diego businessman Ted Vallas. Vallas wanted a San Diego based airline, rather than a Los Angeles based one. After investing $14 million of his own money, he hoped to raise $32 million more from other investors.

The airline struggled to achieve certification from the FAA and had additional difficulties securing routes out of Palomar airport and a fleet of planes.

At the end of 2017, the airline finally decided to acquire another airline, ADI Aerodynamics, rather than continue to search for affordable planes. This gave them FAA approval and the fleet was ready to fly.

The company gained permission from San Diego County to operate commercial services, and scheduled their first routes. The airline formally began its first commercial service in November 2018, with nonstop flights between Carlsbad and a select number of destinations in the southwestern United States.

California Pacific sweetened their ticket price by offering two free checked bags and one-way fares starting at $99.

Suddenly, in late December 2018, the airline announced that it was temporarily suspending flights due to a pilot shortage. No restart date has been given as of early January 2019.

Boutique Air was founded in 2007 in San Francisco, California, by current CEO Shawn Simson, one of Google’s first employees. The company operates a small airline service, subsidized under the Essential Air Service Program.

Originally, the company operated flight on demand service, chartered flights, and pilot training. In 2013, the company received authority to fly commuter air flights from the Transportation Authority. Immediately the company began seeking permission and proposed flights under the Essential Air Service Program. As of 2016, the company has a fleet of 25 aircraft.

Today, Boutique Air has 14 scheduled routes, with non-stop flights being approved in 2016. Flights are available to 14 states and more than 30 airports. Company headquarters remain in San Francisco, California.

Mesa Airlines Corporate Office

Mesa Airlines was founded in 1980, originally as Mesa Air Shuttle, in New Mexico. The company operates a regional airline, now out of the Phoenix, Arizona, hub. The company moved its headquarters from Farmington, New Mexico, to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1998.

The company is known for having the lowest amount of incidents recorded through the Journal of Air Transportation. The company now operates in 180 markets within the western hemisphere. Currently , Mesa has 133 planes, with more on order, and flies to 200 destinations.

Mesa Airlines filed for bankruptcy in January of 2010 in order to release themselves from leases for the planes they no longer needed. The company came out of bankruptcy in March of 2011; the fastest turn around time for any airline filing for chapter 11.

Air Canada was founded in 1937 as Trans-Canada Air Lines. The company is the largest airline in Canada, with more than 1,500 flights every day. The company is the world’s 10th largest airline and is a founding member of The Star Alliance network of airlines.

The company was renamed Air Canada in 1965. In addition to the main airline, the company also had several subsidiaries, including Air Canada Vacations, Air Canada Cargo, Air Canada Express, and Air Canada Rouge. In 2000, the company acquired their competition, Canadian Airlines.

Starting in July of 2006, the company launched on an interior makeover of all planes in the fleet, including in-seat games, LCD touchscreen televisions and internet service, and some models having their interiors completely gutted and new cabins installed.

In February 2017, a new retro red and black aircraft design was launched, to coincide with Air Canada’s 80th anniversary and Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.

Currently, the airline flies to 21 domestic destinations and 81 international destinations, including the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Along with its regional partners, the carrier serves over 182 destinations in 47 countries on six continents worldwide.

Air Canada’s frequent flyer rewards program, Aeroplan, allowed for both points collection and spending, as well as status and rewards as an Air Canada customer. As the Air Canada and Aeroplan changed, the division of points collection & spending, and had Air Canada introduce an internal rewards program, Altitude. Altitude is also going to be updated and replaced sometime in 2020.
