Prodege, the parent company of Swagbucks, was founded in Torrance, California in 2005 by Josef Gorowitz.
The company originally partnered with search providers to build a platform for raising charitable donations. Supporters of the charities would earn money for the charities while surfing and shopping using white-labeled web browsers.
In February 2008, Prodege launched Swagbucks.com. The company develops consumer rewards and polling programs under various names including Swagbucks, MyPoints, ShopAtHome, InboxDollars, CouponCause, Ysense, and Upromise.
The company has grown substantially, including the acquisition of other rewards-type businesses including MyPoints in 2016, Greenwood Village in 2017, and Cotter Enterprises in 2019.
As of 2020, Prodege’s products, including Swagbucks, had over 120 million users, and as of 2019, had rewarded $725 million to its users since its inception.
