History

Hotwire.Com functions as an operating system of Expedia. When Expedia and other sites have hotel accommodations and airline seats that are unsold, they often are turned over to Hotwire. The company does not use an auction format, but shows their pricing upfront. The company removed all airline booking fees in 2007, something few other companies have done.

Hotwire.Com uses an “opaque” sales model. While the time and price are shown, the exact name of the hotel or airline is not revealed until after the client has purchased their ticket. This is to avoid direct competition with other travel partners.

Hotwire doesn’t do a lot of paid advertising but in late 2021, it released a new ad, the first in nearly 4 years.

Also in late 2021, the company released a survey which ranked the best cities for a quick weekend getaway and Palm Springs, California, came out on top.

Champs Sports was founded in the early part of the 1980s as a division of the Woolworth Company. Champs Sports began selling athletic apparel and shoes as the concept of the five and dime department store began to die out. Specialty stores, such as Champs Sports and Foot Locker, became more profitable. As Woolworth closed their department stores, they opened more sporting goods stores, including Champs Sports.

Today, Champs Sports is a subsidiary of Foot Locker and has 547 locations in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

History

In 2012, Nike and Champs Sports launched Nike Yardline. These are stores that specialize in NFL apparel and footwear. This collaboration has proved profitable and both companies state that they are looking to expand these stores in the future.

The company announced in mid-2018 that they were moving out of the Tampa University Mall and setting up shop in a nearby strip mall for improved visibility to the public.

History

The company began as a mailorder service and began selling online in 1995. Retail locations were opended in 2001. Title Nine currently has 23 locations and employs 300 full time employees. It is run by female executives and largely staffed by female athletes.

The company uses employees, employee family members, or customers for their advertising. Title Nine also offers a laid back workspace that concentrates on employee job satisfaction. Every desk at the corporate office has a view of the gym, every meeting has a game scheduled either before or after the meeting, and every desk is a free standing model with wheels.

The company sponsors a Movers and Makers contest where designers and manufacturers compete to have their products featured and sold on the Title Nine site.

Hotels.Com was founded in 1991 as part of the Hotel Reservation Network by David Litman and Robert Deiner. The company was purchased by Expedia in 2001. Hotels.Com is an online hotel and vacation package reservation service that offers discounted prices from hotel company websites.

The company has seen substantial international growth since 2002, with hotel bookings for Japan, Central, and South America, China, Australia, and the Middle East. Hotels.Com launched a mobile phone app for both Android and iPhones in 2011. The company also has a loyalty program which offers additional discounts for continued booking on the site.

In a 2017 review, Forbes says that they found cheaper prices by calling the hotel directly.

Hotels.com also offers a low price guarantee and offers hotel deals in more than 34 languages. The company states it has partnerships with approximately 325,000 hotels in 19,000 locations around the globe.

In April 2021, the company began a program where winners who entered “travel expenses” incurred during the quarantine of 2020 could win $2,741 in travel credit.

Shoenbaum became a Big Boy franchiser in 1952 and changed the name of his restaurant to Parkette Big Boy Shoppe. By 1954, Shoenbaum had 5 restaurant locations.

History

In 1982, the company began franchising restaurants in other states under the name Shoney’s Towne and Country. In 2000, the company filed for bankruptcy and was acquired by Lone Star Funds. In 2007, the company was purchased by Royal Capital Corporation, the same owners as Church’s Fried Chicken.

The new CEO, David Davoudpour, has completely reorganized and revitalized the restaurant chain, making it profitable once again. As of December of 2019, the company had 282 locations in 17 states.

In April 2020, in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Shoney’s offered free meals to hospitality workers.
