Ackerman Security was founded in 1967 by current CEO Bruce Turry, and has headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Turry was followed home one evening and was robbed, his house burglarized. Rather than wish the police could have done something, Turry decided to make his own alarm company to help prevent this from happening to others.

Today, Ackerman Security offers home and business burglary alarms, security systems, video monitoring, and web enabled devices which can be operated from any smart phone, tablet, or computer. The company has more than 47,000 homes and business clients across the US and has seen tremendous growth over the past decade.

The Imperial Capital Group has acquired Ackerman Security in the early part of 2015.

Orscheln Farm and Home Supply was founded in 1960 by W.C. Orscheln in Sedelia, Missouri. Although the Orscheln brothers had been in the trucking and farming equipment business since at least the 1930’s, the company’s focus moved to supplying rural American families and small-time farmers with the supplies they needed.

History

The company operates a chain of home improvement, farm supplies, and hunting supplies. The distribution center and headquarters are located in Moberly, Missouri. The recent acquisition of a warehouse/distribution center in Abilene, Kansas, is meant to supply locations that are under construction or are about to open.

Orscheln Farm and Home Supply currently has 175 locations in 9 states. The company operates as a subsidiary of the Orscheln Group.

In August 2020, the company opened a new location in Lexington, Kentucky.

In October 2022, Tractor Supply Company acquired Orscheln Farm and Home for $238 million. It is unknown if Tractor Supply will rebrand Orscheln Farm and Home.

MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream was founded in 1989 in Kansas City, Kansas, by Juel and Katherine Tillery. The store is named after a cow that the couple’s daughter liked. Franchising started the next year and the business expanded quickly.

The company is different from other ice cream shops in that they serve ice cream in a fun, light hearted environment. Today, all company stores are franchised operations of the Global Franchise Group. The company currently has about 400 locations, with plans to expand to 1,000 locations, but no date is set for achieving that goal.

MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream offers a premium brand of ice cream containing 14% butterfat and is known for their wide variety of items that can be mixed into the ice cream or served on top, including crushed candy bars, fudge, sprinkles, brownies, and cookies.

The company is the second largest security service provider in the US, serving more than 1 million customers. The company recently moved its monitoring centers to one central location in Farmers Branch, Texas. Monitronics offers both cell phone monitoring and automation services, but landline services as well. In addition to home and commercial security services, the company also offers fire alarms, personal protection alarms, two-way voice communication services, and an interactive service option.

In 2013, the company acquired Security Networks, a conglomerate of approximately 225 dealers, for $507 million.

In 2016, the company changed their name to Moni Smart Security, along with their logo.

The company announced in late February 2018 that they had arranged an exclusive, long-term, trademark licensing agreement with The Brink’s Company.

Monitronics has received numerous awards for their services including being listed in SDM magazine as one of the Top 100 Security Companies continuously since 2002, and North American Frost & Sullivan listed Monitronics as their pick for Company of the Year in 2010.
