Booking.com was founded when two hotel booking sites in the Netherlands, Bookings.NL, and Bookings.org merged in 2000. The company name and URL was changed to Bookings.Com. The company is a subsidiary of Booking Holdings, which has headquarters in Connecticut.

Online travel giant Expedia was first offered the company in 2002, but they rejected the chance to acquire it. In 2005, Booking Holdings (or Priceline Group, as it was called at that time) acquired the company for $133 million.

History

Bookings.Com has more than 29 million listings in 143,000 + destinations in 230 countries. The website is available in 43 languages and books more than 1.5 million reservations every single day.

The Better Business Bureau profile for Booking.Com lists only 657 complaints, most of them regarding the property that was reserved. Booking.Com acts as a mediator between renters and consumers.

The website has been a favorite target of hackers, with the company stating it was breached both in 2014 and again in 2018.

In May 2018, Russia considered blocking the website in retaliation to US sanctions on Russia.

Founded by two former Google employees, Steven Gutentag and Demetri Karagas, the company is trying to fill in a niche market for men who are losing their hair but are unaware that there are products that can prevent hair loss when taken early.

The website offers a medical review and even a video conference with a tele-doctor if clients wish. A client’s history and current problem is reviewed by medical doctors, who prescribe a treatment plan, which is offered to clients as a subscription service.

History

The site currently works with doctors in 30 US states and uses a mail-order pharmacy, Eagle Pharmacy. Products might include a daily medication to be taken orally once per month or using a common topical ointment, or other products, depending on the client’s situation and history.

Keeps.Com has raised more than $7 million in funding and hopes to knock most of their competition out of the market.

Katheryn Hackett took her hobby of making wreaths and garlands into a full-time business in 1987 when a friend, who had a mail order business, passed away. Her friend’s husband wasn’t interested in his wife’s business, so Hackett purchased the list of 700 persons and used that as a base for her business.

The company harvests the material for wreaths and garlands from local fields and forests to make their beautiful creations. At least 25% of company sales come during the Christmas holidays, with Hackett making about 1,000 wreaths in 2017.

History

Hackett says she likes to think about where each wreath is going and where the person might be placing it. She finds that this busy time of year, when she often works 14 hour days, keeps her “centered.” Hackett’s mother, Betsy Cooke, helps to keep the books and the mailing list, as well as pitching in cutting branches when needed.

The company has two divisions, wholesale and retail, with the wholesale business starting in November 1st. Hackett says that she offers a 100% replacement guarantee, no questions asked. In addition to wreaths and garlands, the company offers pure Vermont maple syrup and Vermont Cabot Cheese.

Bush’s Chicken was founded in Waco, Texas, in 1996 by Keith and Charlene Bush. The restaurant chain is best known for it’s southern-styled fried chicken and sides that include fried okra, fries, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, yeast rolls, and macaroni and cheese. Bush’s Chicken also offers sweet tea and unsweetened ice tea sold by the gallon jug.

The company has approximately 90 locations in 4 states, with a mix of both franchises and corporate-owned stores. Many locations in Texas offer old-fashioned car hop service, which is popular with locals.

History

In late 2012, the chain was hit with a lawsuit in which a woman claimed her husband died from salmonella poisoning after eating at Bush’s Chicken. Based on medical evidence at the trial, the jury concluded that Bush’s Chicken was not responsible for the man’s death.

In June of 2018, multiple locations suddenly closed their doors with no explanation. The restaurant chain had been briefly sold, but second generation Bush family members repurchased the restaurant chain.

In October 2020, the company introduced a new sandwich, the Bushbaby Chicken Sandwich.

El Dorado Furniture was founded by Cuban immigrant Manuel Capo in 1967 in Miami, Florida. Today, the company is owned and operated by the Capo family.

History

In 1994, El Dorado Furniture opened its first Boulevard showroom. This design concept would eventually be implemented in all of its stores. The Boulevard is a facade of a typical Main Street in America, surrounded by “shops” that serve as dedicated showrooms for different categories of furniture.

In 2004, the company opened the largest furniture showroom in the state of Florida and in 2006, Furniture Today listed the company as #46 on their list of the Top 100 Furniture Stores in the US. The company now has 14 showrooms throughout the state.

In June 2022, the company opened a massive 44,000-square-foot showroom in St. Petersburg, Florida.
