In October 2018, Chris and Cindy Watts donated $30 million to Arizona State University, one of the largest donations ever received.

In November 2022, SunState donated three large pieces of equipment to the Texas State Technical College for students learning to repair diesel engines.

In November 2020, SunState acquired Cascade Shoring and Trench Safety, a company based in the Pacific Northwest,

SunState currently has 76 US locations but plans to double that number over the next 10 years.

ThunderCloud Subs first opened in Austin, Texas, in 1975. Franchising began shortly after. Today there are more than 35 locations across Texas.

In 1991, the company began and sponsored the annual Turkey Trot, a 5K run and walk to raise money for the Caritas Foundation, which is focused on ending homelessness.

The Oura ring is intended to be comfortable and not disrupt sleep or exercise. The operation of the Oura Ring is based on infrared LEDs.

In March 2022, the company announced that it had sold more than 1 million rings.

In May 2022, Oura and fashion brand Gucci launched a ring with details in 18-karat yellow gold. It comes with Oura’s Gen3 technology.

In August 2023, soon after the release of the third-generation ring, Oura released a US$5.99 monthly membership (with a one-month free trial) for their products that put certain aspects of user data behind a paywall.

The release of this membership program received much criticism and anger from Oura users and reviewers who highlighted the expensive cost of the membership on top of the US$299 price of the Oura Ring.

Amana

Amana, best known for its home appliances, was founded in 1934 by George Foerstner as The Electrical Equipment Company. The company manufactured commercial walk-in coolers.

In 1947, Amana manufactured the first upright freezer for the home, and in 1949 it added a side-by-side refrigerator. In 1950 the company was sold to a group of investors, including its founder, and became Amana Refrigeration, Inc.

In 1967, Amana introduced a consumer model of the Radarrange, the first popular microwave designed for home use.

In 1997, the company sold off its home heating and air conditioning division to Goodman Global, which still uses the Amana name.

That same year, Maytag, now part of Whirlpool, acquired the Amana line of home appliances.

Bob Vila often lists Amana appliances as some of the best products that homeowners can buy.

As Amana expands and begins to manufacture and sell different types of appliances, this creates a wealth of new job openings.

The company was co-founded in 2007 by Kevin Ryan, Michael Bryzek, and Phong Nguyen, with Alexis Maybank, and Alexandra Wilson joining shortly after the company’s inception.

The founders modeled Gilt after Vente-Privee, an online fashion retailer in France. The original business plan consisted of “flash sales,” selling a limited number of luxury designer items at steep discounts for a brief period.

According to Business Insider, during its “hyper-growth years, the company overextended itself and lost focus”, as the expanded business segments such as “Full-price retail, travel, and food were sucking resources from Gilt’s core categories — discounted women’s fashion”, and Gilt was forced to sell these non-core businesses at a loss.

In 2016, Hudson Bay acquired Gilt for $250 million.

Gilt filed for an IPO in November 2021 but it seems stalled due to the company’s failure to turn a profit.

The Simon Property Group gave Gilt a much-needed cash boost of $280 million to launch an online outlet e-commerce store.
