When the pair found that they were having trouble paying the rent on their expensive San Francisco apartment, they converted the living room into a “guest room” with three beds. They rented this space out to short-term renters and offered a homemade breakfast as well.

Airbnb offers vacation rentals from private individuals who rent out rooms, entire houses, or guest houses. Both hosts and guests post pictures and offer feedback afterward. This creative concept has been praised by many, however, it has seen a few problems, including a recent (May 2016) lawsuit brought about by a guest who says they were denied a reservation based on their race. A class action lawsuit was opened against Airbnb due to discrimination based on race in July 2017.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, Airbnb began pushing their virtual “home classes”, where property owners can not only highlight their rentals for later in the year, but they also feature some type of class, such as Korean cooking, yoga, or learning to play guitar.

The company now lists rentals in more than 191 countries, and 34,000 cities, and boasts more than 6 million guests.

Coco’s Bakery Corporate Office

Coco’s Bakery was founded in 1948 in Corona Del Mar, California. The original name was The Snack Shop”. The company has been sold several times over the years, most recently in 2018 to Shari’s Pies.

Coco’s Bakery is a casual restaurant chain which features typical American cuisine, such as hamburgers, salads, and sandwiches, in addition to bakery items such as pies, cakes, and muffins. Bakery items are displayed in a case near the front door and can be purchased to go or they can be ordered by the piece to accompany meals.

The company currently has 57 locations in California, Arizona, and Nevada. Coco’s has been experiencing financial difficulties and shut down 38 locations without warning in April of 2015, soon after purchase by the Zensho Company.

In September 2018, it was announced that Shari’s Cafe & Pies had taken over Carrows Restaurants and Coco’s Bakery.

TigerDirect Corporate Office

TigerDirect was founded in 1987 and has headquarters in El Segundo, California. Originally founded as Tiger Software, it was a direct subsidiary of BLOC Development. The company began publishing software and tools known as “FormTool”. BLOC Development changed its name to TigerDirect. The company was eventually purchased by Systemax and changed its format from software tools to the refurbishing of computers and other electronics, then reselling them via catalog or online sales.

The company has franchises and licenses under several names including Noah’s New York Bagels, Manhattan Bagel Company, and Bagel & Bagel, Inc. Einstein Brothers Bagels is a subsidiary of the Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, which also owns Boston Market.

TCBY (The Country’s Best Yogurt, originally This Can’t Be Yogurt) was founded in 1981 by Frank D. Hickingbotham in Little Rock, Arkansas. The company began franchise operations the next year. Today, the company has more than 470 locations around the globe. TCBY is the world’s largest seller of soft serve frozen yogurt and yogurt dishes.

The company was purchased by Mrs. Fields Cookies in 2000 and the company became Mrs. Fields Famous Brands. TCBY offers both hard serve and soft serve frozen yogurt in a wide variety of flavors, along with drinks such as yogurt smoothies.

TCBY began offering a new type of pricing and service where customers serve themselves, mixing flavors and adding toppings as they like, then paying by the ounce, rather than by scoop, size, or per price of toppings. This service began in Utah and is spreading to other locations.
