WageWorks was founded by Jon Kessler in 2000. The company operates a health care management system which allows employees and employers to manage health savings accounts, COBRA accounts, and commuter benefits. Kessler left the company in 2007 and is now the CEO of HealthEquity, Inc.

At the end of April 2019, HealthEquity offered to acquire WageWorks for $2 billion. The possible merger is pending.

An audit in 2017 found that earnings reports were inaccurate “In a statement, the company said its 2016 revenue of $364.7 million was overstated by a range of approximately $6.5 million to $9.5 million, but that those estimates are preliminary. It also said its 2016 net income would be restated at about $3.5 million to $5.5 million below the reported $20.2 million.”

Joss and Main got its start when entrepreneurs Niraj S. Shah & Steven K. Conine started a small business working out of Conine’s nursery. They called their furniture company Wayfair.

Wayfair was so successful the pair decided to expand and create other subsidiaries; Josh and Main was founded in 2011. This store differs from Wayfair in that it is a membership store. It offers a wide variety of items other than the usual furniture, including outdoor items and furniture, rugs, lighting fixtures, and specially chosen, unique decor items.

In addition to online shopping, the company offers a mobile app designed to make shopping fun and easy for consumers.

In 2017, Joss and Main partnered with HGTV to provide furniture and other items for houses that are being renovated and flipped.

A Joss and Main director was featured in the Boston Globe in September 2018, highlighting how she learned to use style tips from her employer to renovate and decorate her family’s Charlestown Victorian home.

TeleCheck was founded in 1964 by John Chaney & Robert Bayer. The company originally began as a check verification service, providing businesses with assurances that a clients personal check, even out of state checks, had sufficient funds.

Today, TeleCheck operates as an electronic funds transfer service. Customers who do not have or do not wish to use, their credit or debit card have their personal checks entered into a TeleCheck device, which electronically transfers the funds immediately from the clients checking account to the business.

TeleCheck also keeps records of persons who write bad checks. Historical data check verification services that use a national network with a negative check database can be difficult for consumers and businesses to remove themselves from once they get on, even in the case of errors.

Fred’s Corporate Office

IN 1947, Paul Baddour and his two brothers opened a small discount store in Coldwater, Mississippi. While the company was originally incorporated as Baddour, Inc., Paul later named one of the stores after his brother Fred, and the name stuck.

The company opened stores in small towns and offered deeply discounted prices on closeout items. Fred’s stores did quite well, even competing against the giant Walmart by expanding store sizes from the usual 5,000 square feet to 30,000 square feet or more.

Fred’s has diversified into other areas, including Fred’s Pharmacy, Dollar Stores, GetWell Drug and Dollar, and the Yazoo Trading Company. In 2018, the company sold its prescription patient information to competitor Walgreens from their 185 pharmacies. Walgreens paid $165 million for this information after Fred’s was unable to purchase hundreds of Rite Aid pharmacies.
