Loehmann’s Corporate Office

Lohemann’s was founded in 1921 in Brooklyn, New York, by Frieda Lohemann and her son, Charles. Lohemann began by buying overstock from name brand companies in New York ,then reselling them at her store. Charles wanted to open a second location, but Frieda did not. She moved into the top floor of the business and Charles opened a second location in the Bronx. After his mother’s death, Charles closed her original store.

The company has been sold several times at, at its peak, had 100 stores in 17 states. However, the company has struggled over the years, filing for bankruptcy numerous times; first in 1999, then again in 2010, then for the last time in 2013.

Lohemann’s closed its last brick and mortar store February of 2014, however, the company is not out of business. Lohemann’s has found new life as an eCommerce site, continuing to sell clothing, handbags, jewelry, and shoes at discount prices.

Cycle Gear was founded in 1974 in Benicia, California. The company provides motorcycle equipment, such as helmets, jackets, and sunglasses. The company currently has 115 locations in 38 states.

The company was recently acquired by private equity firm J.W. Childs Associates in late 2015. Cycle Gear acquired RevZilla in February of 2016. It is not known at this time if the two companies will merge or will remain independent.

Cycle Gear will continue with their catalog sales and eCommerce site while announcing plans that they intend to expand in 2017. The company is also a sponsor of approximately 1,000 different cycling events in the US each year.

Hansen’s Clothing was founded in 1901 by Ole Hansen, who bought out his partners to own this men’s clothing store. The company is still in the family, with Ole’s grandson Duane acting as CEO.

The company operates a large eCommerce site and men’s clothing store in Spencer, Iowa. Hansen’s Clothing also owns the dry cleaning and alteration shop next door. The company features brand name men’s clothing, including Robert Talbott shirts and ties, Bill’s Khakis, and Pendelton jackets.

While the CEO was reluctant to open an eCommerce site, it has proved to be his biggest sales generator to date. The company offers free hemming of pants and same day shipping in most instances. The eCommerce site also offers clearance items.
