Backcountry.Com was founded by two friends, Jim Holland and John Bresee. The company originally began selling avalanche items out of a loft in Park City, Utah. During their first 15 years, the company grew at an outstanding rate and was one of the first profitable online retailers. This two man operation now employs more than 1,200 full time employees.
TSG Consumer Partners purchased the company in July of 2015 and a new CEO, Jonathan Nielsen, was announced in March of 2016.
Backcountry.Com is an online retailer of outdoor and hiking gear, including tents, clothing, backpacking gear, skiing equipment, hats, watches, wallets, footwear, and helmets.
