Pottery Barn was founded in 1949 by brothers, Morris and Paul Secon in Manhattan, New York. After Paul discovered three barns full of pottery “extras” and seconds from designer Glidden Parker, Secon purchased all three barns, including their contents. The name of the company comes from this humble beginning.

History

The company is an upscale home furnishing and housewares store that has headquarters in San Francisco, California. The company is a subsidiary of Williams-Sonoma, Inc., who purchased the company in 1996.

Today, Pottery Barn no longer sells pottery and they have branched out to sell to more than just adults. Subsidiaries for the company include Pottery Barn Kids, Pottery Barn Teen, Pottery Barn Bed & Bath, as well as their traditional catalog.

The company has locations throughout the US and 6 countries, including Mexico, Canada, and Australia. While the company has brick and mortar stores, they also offer online and catalog sales. The company catalog was first produced in 1987 and has remained extremely popular.

Pottery Barn differs from many other home furnishing stores as they offer free in-store decorator advice as well as in-home service. The company also offers delivery and assembly service of their items, which is referred to as “white glove service”.

In early 2017, the company introduced an augmented reality app for iOS mobile phones which allows users to virtually place Pottery Barn products into a room and save room design idea(s).

Magic Mart was founded by the Ammar family in West Virginia in 1920. Originally named Ammar Brother’s Department Stores, the company opened its first Magic Mart location in 1967. Ammar’s Inc. owns several department stores in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

The company has 1,000 full time employees and had annual revenue in 2015 of $72 million. Magic Mart sells a wide variety of items from clothing to carpentry items, tuxedo rentals to paint, automotive products to sporting goods. As Magic Mart became more successful, the Ammar Brother’s stores either closed or were converted into Magic Marts.

Magic Mart currently has 22 locations in 4 states and is headquartered in Bluefield, Virginia.

While many pizza restaurant’s offer salads or even salad bars, America’s Incredible Pizza Company also offers an impressive buffet, which includes pizza bars, pasta, baked potatoes, soup, and salad bars, along with desserts, including ice creams, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cobblers, bread pudding, and pies.

From a single location, the company has expanded to include most of the midwestern states and 3 in Mexico. The company began franchising in 2003 and continues to expand. America’s Incredible Pizza Company has more than 1,200 full time employees and annual revenue in 2013 of $64.1 million.

Green Burrito began as a single, private fast food restaurant in Hawaiian Gardens, California. It was purchased in 1980 by Ruben Rodriguez, who began expanding the chain into several locations. CKE, Inc. who owns Carl’s Jr. restaurants, bought the chain in 2001.

Green Burrito, along with Red Burrito, offers fast food, Mexican-American style food, including beef, bean, and chicken burritos,tacos, taquitos, and taco “salads”. The company currently has more than 3,300 locations overall, including the Carl’s Jr., Green Burrito, and Red Burrito brands. Some locations incorporate both a Green Burrito menu inside of a Carl’s Jr. restaurant.

The company does allow franchising, but since it is private, it is unknown how many of the Green Burrito locations are company owned or franchised.

Bellvale Farms Creamery

Bellvale Farms Creamery goes back to 1819 when William Wisener purchased the Bellvale Farm. The farm itself is still active and has 450 acres of land, but the ice cream shop was put atop Mt. Peter, almost directly on the Appalachian trail, in 2003.

The company offers handmade ice cream with the butterfat from the cows on the farm, along with homemade pies, ice cream cakes, and ice cream pies. Bellvale Farms Creamery has more than 50 ice cream flavors and ice cream dishes, including the Bellvale Bog, which has brownie dough and fudge swirled inside chocolate ice cream.

Bellvale Farms won second place as Best Ice Cream Shop, by clients of TripAdvisor. The farm itself has been continuously owned by 7 generations of family members and continues to serve the Warwick valley.
