Wrangler was founded in 1904 by C.C. Hudson and the Blue Bell Overall Company, who originally named the company Hudson Overall Company. They employed an old cowboy named Rodeo Ben (Bernard Lichtenstein) who was also a tailor. He helped to design what are today call Wrangler jeans.

History

Today, Wrangler is a subsidiary of VF Corporation, who also owns Lee, JanSport, and NorthFace. Wrangler is sold all over the world, with Australia, the US, and Europe being their largest markets, where Wrangler jeans are almost iconic.

There are currently no factories in the US sewing Wrangler jeans, the last one closing in 2005. Although most people associated the brand with the American west, cowboys, and American country music, the jeans are actually sewn in Mexico.

The company continues to seek out sustainability for its products. In September 2020, Wrangler sought out farmers who would or are growing regeneratively grown cotton.

In May 2023, Wrangler signed a multi-year contract with country singer Lainey Wilson to promote its fall/winter clothing line.

Carrier Corporation was founded in 1915 when Willis Carrier, who invented air conditioning in 1902, pooled resources with 6 other engineers to create the first air conditioning company in the world in Newark, New Jersey.

History

Over the years the company has acquired several businesses, as well as been acquired by others, the latest in 1979 by United Technologies Corporation. The company manufactures, sells, and installs air conditioning and heating units around the world. In 2001 the company was recognized as being the largest manufacturer of refrigeration and heating units in the world.

In November of 2016, the company negotiated a deal with then president elect Trump that they would leave a heating manufacturing plant in Indiana, saving about 800 jobs. The remainder of the plant and jobs were sent to Monterrey, Mexico. Carrier received a $7 million tax incentive over the next 10 years.

Carrier and other HVAC companies have the potential to make a bundle with the coronavirus crisis since it has more people spending time indoors.

Bank of the Ozarks was founded in 1903 in Jasper, Arkansa. The company operates a chain of banks that do business in 9 states.

Current CEO and owner, George Gleason, purchased the bank in 1979. At that time, the company had 2 branches and $28 million in assets. The company moved headquarters to Little Rock in 1995. Today, the bank is the third largest in Arkansas, with $18.45 billion in assets and more than 2,000 full time employees.

The company continues to grow via acquisitions, including Bank of the Carolinas in May of 2015, Community and Southern Bank in October of 2015, and C1 Bank of St. Petersburgh, Florida, in November of 2015.

Jackrabbit Corporate Office

Jackrabbit

Jackrabbit was founded in 2003 by Lee Silverman in Brooklyn, New York. The company operates a chain of running shoes and sportswear apparel, specifically geared for runners. The original name of the company was The Running Speciality Group.

The original store became very popular as employees underwent an 8 hour training session so that they would be able to sell customers the correct pair of shoes. From the single location, the company has grown to more than 66 stores in 17 states. The company was purchased by The Finish Line in March of 2015 for an undisclosed amount and the company name was changed to Jackrabbit at this time.

Jackrabbit headquarters are now located in Denver, Colorado. The Finish Line didn’t waste any time, however, in selling Jackrabbit. Private equity firm CriticalPoint Capital acquired Jackrabbit for an undisclosed sum in late January of 2017. It is unknown if the company will change name or move headquarters at this time.

The company is the largest cardroom in the world, with more than 240 tables on site. As of 2016, the company paid $22 million in licensing fees alone to the city of Commerce, which is located just outside the city of Los Angeles. The company added The Crowne Plaza Hotel in 2001, which has 200 rooms, as well as several restaurants.

The Commerce Casino offers card games, as well as hosting live boxing and MMA events . In 2014, the company opened a Playboy themed gaming lounge. Every Tuesday and Wednesday, the company offers free poker lessons at the hotel.
