Pure Flix was founded in 2005 by David White, Russell Wolfe, Randy, and Elizabeth Travis. Inspired by Netflix, the company is designed for Christian viewers or those who wish to view films and series without profanity and nudity.
Since 2015, the company has had its own theatrical distribution division. The company creates its own series and films, or they pay for the rights to show films made by others on its network.
In 2016, Pure Flix announced that it has struck a long-term multi-year distribution deal with Universal Pictures, which would officially manage the home media releases of every Pure Flix-produced film, starting with Woodlawn.
In early 2020, Mickey Rourke was signed as the leading man of the religious drama “Man of God, for which Pure Flix picked up the rights to all international sales.
