LetGo was founded in 2015 in New York, New York by Alec Oxenford, Jordi Castello, and Enrique Linares. The company operates a mobile phone app and a website that lists used items for sale.

The company is similar to OfferUp, eBay, and Craigslist in that clients contact each other to buy and sell (mainly) used items. LetGo has seen tremendous growth in a very short period of time. The company recently raised $175 million to invest in growth plans. The app has proven to be wildly successful, with 45 million downloads in the first 6 months of 2017, and annual transaction volume of $23 billion in the same time frame.

Apps like Letgo and OfferUp are direct competition to the cash positive Craigslist.

History

LetGo earns money via advertising and “bumping” client posts to the top of the page for periods of time. The app and listings are free unless clients wish to “bump” their post. A spokesperson for the company states there are currently 100 full-time employees. The app works in 25 countries, however, the company expects this to double by the end of 2017.

The company’s focus is on the health and mental benefits of regular massage therapy, but at a discounted price. An average therapist earns $68 an hour. Koon dropped that price to $40. Unfortunately, Koon found that he didn’t enjoy the franchise part of his business and sold it to a friend in 2009 for an undisclosed sum. Koon and his wife still operate their original massage location in Dilworth.

Zen Massage currently has 16 locations in 41 states, all of them franchised. The company has no membership plan, customers pay each time they come in. This sets Zen Massage apart from similar enterprises. Headquarters are located in Harrisburg, North Carolina.

Arnette Eyewear was founded by Greg Arnette in 1992 in San Clemente, California. Arnette began by selling sunglasses out of the truck of a rental car at the beaches in Southern California. Arnette sold the business to Bausch and Lomb in 1996 for $100 million, but stayed on as CEO.

Today, Arnette Eyewear is a subsidiary of Luxottica, who is the largest maker and seller of sunglasses in the world. Greg Arnette stepped down in 2000 when Luxottica acquired the company. Arnette sunglasses and goggles are best known for use by professional skateboarders, surfers, and skiing enthusiasts.

Most of the original employees of Arnette left the company soon after Luxottica took over, many of them, including former COO Bruce Beach, said that Luxottica appeared to have no interest in learning about their customers and that they were taking the company in a different direction.
