Dollar Shave Club was founded in 2011 in Venice, California, by friends Michael Dublin and Mark Levine. After discussing their mutual dislike of buying expensive razor blades, they decided to start their own company, selling subscription blades for less.

History

The company released an intro video in 2012 entitled “Our Blades are F***ing Great” that quickly went viral, crashing company servers, but adding more than 12,000 orders in 48 hours. Within a few years, the company went from unknown to more than $615 million in sales.

Today, the company has more than 3.2 million regular subscribers to its razor home delivery service. In 2013, the company added personal care products including face towels, hair care items, shaving butter, and wipes.

In July of 2016, the company was acquired by Unilever for $1 billion in cash. Dublin remains CEO at this time and headquarters are located in Marina Del Rey, California, while packaging and shipping are performed in Kentucky.

After leaving the Air Force, Dr. Keefe began working as a dental assistant to Dr. Ed Fredrickson, a prominent prosthodontist who specialized in dentures and implants and was one of the first dentists to provide osseointegrated dental implants in the United States.In addition to general dentistry work, the company specializes in dentures, crowns, implants, smile makeovers, cosmetic dentistry, such as teeth whitening, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, sedation dentistry, periodontics, emergency care, oral surgery, and Invisalign clear braces.

The Fairmont Hotel

The Fairmont Hotel was opened in 1907 in San Francisco, California. The hotel is named after the Senator James Grand Fir, by his daughters, who built the hotel in his honor. The hotel was scheduled to open in 1906, but was damaged in the infamous earthquake.

Today, the Fairmont Hotel is owned by the Mirae Asset Global Investment group of South Korea. The hotel is listed as a 5 star hotel, with 3 restaurants, more than 500 rooms and 11 suites. The Venetian Room is where Tony Bennett first sang his hit song “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” in 1961.

In 2002, the hotel was listed in the National Register of Historic Places and as a San Francisco Dedicated Landmark in 1987. Company headquarters remain at the hotel on Mason Street in San Francisco, California.

After spending time in Uganda on a coffee plantation, the couple decided to open their own coffee shop.
