The company is currently the 9th largest media, film, and cable company in the US. Viacom owns BET Networks, MTV Networks, and Paramount Pictures.

Viacom has led a long-term lawsuit against YouTube (owned by Google) for copyright infringement since February 2007. Both parties apparently settled out of court in 2013 with no money being exchanged and the exact terms undisclosed.

Viacom is listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol VIA. In 2017, the company reported annual revenue of $13.263 billion.

Today, Zondervan is one of the largest sellers of Christian themed books, bibles, music, and movies. The company is now a part of the HarperCollins Christian Publishing Company. In addition to Christian themed books and music, the company has a division of books on tape, children’s books, and religious home decor, including candles and wall plaques.

The company has been highly criticized by some fundamentalist groups for publishing different versions of the bible, including their gender neutral Today’s New International Version. Rolling Stone magazine received criticism after refusing to accept an advertisement for Zondervan’s bibles.

It was in 1991 that AOL became incredibly popular as one of the biggest dial-up internet service providers in the U.S.  Free AOL software could be found in almost every store in the country along with discs also being mailed to households on a massive scale.

However, when broadband began to take over in place of dial-up around 2003, AOL suffered tremendous losses by not keeping up with technology. The company lost millions of customers and laid off thousands of employees.

Today, the company works as a multi-media news provider offering shopping, search engine services, news, and email.

AOL was purchased by Verizon in June of 2015 for $4.4 billion.
