iMotors Corporate Office

iMotors was founded in 1999 by Ben Behrouzi & Avi Singh in San Francisco, California. The company sells new and used cars and states that it was the first online used car dealer in the world.

In 2001, iMotors, which was formed in September out of the used-car superstore company called Auto Choice, broke ground on a 60,000-square-foot building to complement its existing 35,000-square-foot vehicle reconditioning center on Elkmont Way in Elk Grove.

iMotors, which has $73.3 million in venture capital for its national expansion, notes that it is not a referral service, broker, or auction house. There is no inventory. Consumers may order 1- to 5-year-old vehicles, specifying make, model, mileage, color, and options, and are guaranteed a price lower than the Kelley Blue Book retail price.

iMotors maintains a corporate office in Walnut Creek, California.

SquareUp.Com Corporate Office

Square was founded in 2009 in St. Louis, Missouri. When Jack Dorsey’s friend Jim McKelvey was unable to complete a transaction and sell his glass fittings because he was unable to accept credit cards, Dorsey decided to create a platform that would enable small businesses to accept a variety of payment methods.

The company’s first product was the Square Reader. This device allows anyone to accept credit card payments by connecting to a mobile device’s audio jack. The original version consisted of a simple read head directly wired to a 3.5 mm audio jack, through which unencrypted, analog card information was fed to smartphones for amplification and digitization.

In July 2014, the firm announced a card reader that would accept credit cards that had chips, and contactless cards to supplement the standard Reader’s support of traditional cards.

In June 2015, Apple announced Square would release a new Reader capable of also accepting Apple Pay and other contactless payments.

In August 2018, Square released a version of its magstripe reader with a Lightning connector, allowing it to be used on all iPhones without a headphone jack.

In May 2013, Square announced it would no longer allow firearms-related transactions to be performed using its devices or software.

After receiving approval in 2020 from the FDIC and the Utah Department of Financial Institutions, the company announced plans to launch small business-focused Square Financial Services in 2021, based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In August 2021, Square announced its acquisition of Afterpay, a company offering a “buy now, pay later” service. Square will pay out $29 billion in stock and the process is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2022.

Square, Inc., the corporate owning entity, retitled itself as Block, Inc. on December 10, 2021. The main payments product for small businesses is still titled “Square”.

The company maintains a corporate office in San Francisco, California.

Whitepages.Com Corporate Office

Whitepages was founded in 1997 by Alex Algard. While studying at Stanford, Algard called information for a friend’s phone number. The number given was incorrect, possibly due to outdated whitepages.

Algard realized that changes could be made more quickly if the old white pages phone books were put online.

Algard paid $900 for the domain name, which emptied his bank account. He worked on the website on weekends. Eventually, the website began earning Algard more money than his job at Goldman Sachs, so he quit and began to work full-time on his website.

Algard incorporated Whitepages.Com in 2000.

The site grew and attracted more advertisers. The company brokered deals with Yellowpages and Superpages, whereby Whitepages earned revenue for sending them referral traffic. By 2005, $15 million in annual revenues was coming from these contracts.

In 2010, Superpages and Yellowpages cut back spending with Whitepages from $33 million to $7 million, causing a substantial decline in revenues and a tense relationship with investors. Algard spent $50 million in cash the company had on-hand and $30 million from a bank loan, to buy out the investors in 2013. He also used his personal house, savings account, and personal belongings as collateral for the loan. Algard began shifting the company’s business model to reduce its reliance on advertising and instead focus on business users and paid subscriptions.

Whitepages and similar services have been criticized because of the danger caused by listing the personal information and physical addresses of unwitting people openly online, and for profiting off the exploitation of personal data.

Whitepages.Com maintains a corporate office in Seattle, Washington.
