Amana Appliances Corporate Office

Amana, best known for its home appliances, was founded in 1934 by George Foerstner as The Electrical Equipment Company. The company manufactured commercial walk-in coolers.

In 1947, Amana manufactured the first upright freezer for the home, and in 1949 it added a side-by-side refrigerator. In 1950 the company was sold to a group of investors, including its founder, and became Amana Refrigeration, Inc.

In 1967, Amana introduced a consumer model of the Radarrange, the first popular microwave designed for home use.

In 1997, the company sold off its home heating and air conditioning division to Goodman Global, which still uses the Amana name.

That same year, Maytag, now part of Whirlpool, acquired the Amana line of home appliances.

The founders modeled Gilt after Vente-Privee, an online fashion retailer in France. The original business plan consisted of “flash sales,” selling a limited number of luxury designer items at steep discounts for a brief period.

According to Business Insider, during its “hyper-growth years, the company overextended itself and lost focus”, as the expanded business segments such as “Full-price retail, travel, and food were sucking resources from Gilt’s core categories — discounted women’s fashion”, and Gilt was forced to sell these non-core businesses at a loss. 

In 2016, Hudson Bay acquired Gilt for $250 million.

Gilt filed for an IPO in November 2021 but it seems stalled due to the company’s failure to turn a profit.

The Simon Property Group gave Gilt a much-needed cash boost of $280 million to launch an online outlet e-commerce store.

After graduating from the University of Arkansas with a degree in political science, Chrissy Sanderson stated that her entire life’s path changed in an instant when she walked into Bordinos Restaurant and wanted to discover how to make their delicious foods.

Mockingbird Kitchen opened in 2016 and in September 2023, Sanderson was named on the USA Today’s list of Top 50 Female Chefs in America.

Sanderson and partner Leigh Helm describe the food served at their restaurant as Modern Ozark, meaning they serve a little bit of everything, with a big emphasis on comfort food, but with a slightly modern twist.

The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, as well as Sunday Brunch.

The coronavirus pandemic was hard on many businesses, including the Mockingbird Restaurant, but the payroll protection program offered by President Biden ended up helping the business through the toughest part.

Jabe decided that women also needed a space where they could relax and rejuvenate themselves. In 2002, she opened the first Nuxe Spa in Paris, which now has expanded to 50 spa locations around the globe.

In September 2023, the company announced that it was committed to sustainability, despite the ever-changing rules.
