In early July 2020, students at the Las Vegas, Nevada, Paul Mitchell school demanded that the cirriculum include work on ethnic hair. Students have taken their concerns to their teachers stating “Black Hair Matters.”

Also in July 2020, the company claims that their company has lost at least 60 percent of their business due to the coronavirus and subsequent quarantine.

By 1987 Sally Beauty had 500 stores and had expanded to the U.K. through the acquisition of the Ogee brand of beauty stores.

As of September 30, 2017, the company operates 3,763 company-owned retail stores with 2,883 stores in the United States, including Puerto Rico; and 880 company-operated stores located in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Chile, and Peru.

The company’s largest competitor is Ulta, which is a much larger chain, however, Sally Beauty continues to hold it’s own against the competition, according to Forbes.

In April of 2018, the company announced cutbacks and layoffs as part of a restructuring plan to save the company $15 million in operating costs. The company declined to state how many people would receive pink slips, however, they did say that the company planned to increase wages for store employees.

Company headquarters are located in Dalton, Texas. The company also operates 168 franchised locations under the Armstrong McCall name.

In 2004 the company bought Sears, changing its name to Sears Holding Corporation.

As of 2022, there are only 12 Kmart stores left in the US, with the majority being located in the US Virgin Islands.

Kate Brosnahan Spade started Kate Spade New York under the name Kate Spade Handbags in 1993 when she set out to design the perfect handbag.

Ms. Spade was a former accessories editor at Mademoiselle. Through her time at Mademoiselle, she noticed that the market lacked stylish and sensible handbags. This inspired her to create a line of handbags with classic shapes, colors, and fabrics.

The brand was sold to Neiman Marcus in 1996 and was then expanded to include stationary, personal organizers, address books, beauty products, perfume, raincoats, pajamas, and eyewear.

In September 2018, the company announced that it was selling Bitcoin through its website using Bitsey Wallet.

In August 2019, CEO Patrick Byrne stepped down after making claims that he had been an FBI informant and that he was involved romantically with a Russian spy. Jonathan Johnson was named as interim CEO.

Many products are made specifically for overstock.com and the company also sells merchandise of other retailers through its website. Overstock. com has 1,800 employees and had $1.745 billion in revenue in 2017.
