History

After being unhappy with inconsistent production, the company purchased a razor factory in Germany for an estimated $100 million in early 2014. In an interview in 2016, Katz-Mayfield stated that the company had 2 million subscribers. In 2017, the company began selling its “starter kits” out of Target stores.

Similar to Warby Parker, which was also co-founded by Jeff Raider, Harry’s began with a buy one donate one business model, donating a free razor blade to charitable organizations

The company offers subscriptions to the UK, Canada, and the USA. Although the manufacturing plant is based in Germany, company headquarters remain in New York City.

History

Although the company did well initially, but the oil industry in Texas took a turn for the worse. McIngvale took his last $10K and invested it into advertising (doing the voice over himself) on two television stations. Although he wasn’t very pleased with the ad, it did well, turning business around.

Today, Gallery Furniture has 3 locations; two in Houston, Texas, and one in Richmond, Texas. The company was recently in the spotlight after Hurricane Harvey, which flooded most of Houston. McIngvale opened his stores to be used as shelters for those who were unable to stay in their homes.

During the intense cold and snowstorms of February 2020, owner Jim “Mack” McIngvale allowed people to use the furniture inside his stores and live there until the situation improved.
