Mancini’s Sleepworld was founded in 1969 in Sunnyvale, California, by Carl and Patsy Mancini. The company operates a chain of mattress and bedding stores. The original store is still in business.

History

While the company started off as a full-service furniture store, in the late ’80s a decision was made to focus on one room of furniture; mattresses and bedding. Today, the company has more than 33 locations, most of them in Northern California. The company has a 100,000-square-foot warehouse, so most items can be delivered the next day and items rarely need to be ordered.

Mancini’s Sleepworld is still owned and operated by the Mancini family.

In September 2022, Sun Capital Partners invested in Mancini’s SleepWorld, although the details were not disclosed. 

In November 2022, Mancini’s SleepWorld announced the opening of its 35th location in San Ramon, California. 

The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and has headquarters in Livermore, California.

Foods Co was founded in 1977 in California. The company is owned by Food 4 Less, which in turn in owned by Kroger. In northern California, Kroger does not own the rights to the Food 4 Less name, so it operates under the Food Co name.

The company operates a chain of no frills ,warehouse type of grocery store, where customers do their own loading, unloading, and bagging of groceries. Customers save money by buying some items in bulk form, such as nuts and beans, and by foregoing fancy fixtures and “pretty” stores, as well as by bagging their own groceries, rather than relying on baggers.

Foods Co store layouts greatly resemble Food 4 Less in that there are frequently disorganized aisles with actively working forklifts moving pallets. Many, however, feel that this is well worth the lower food prices. Company headquarters are located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Blue Bunny Ice Cream was founded back in 1913 by Fred Wells in Sioux City, Iowa. The company began using one horse drawn cart and the milk from 15 cows to make a hand churned ice cream. The name came from a competition where the winning entry included a drawing of a blue rabbit.

Today, the company is the third largest ice cream maker in the US. In addition to ice cream, the company has expanded to sell fruit juice, milk, and yogurt products. Demand for their products has forced the company to build larger and larger processing plants and new corporate offices. The most recent expansion has been a 900,000 square foot processing plant, including a 12 story tall freezer.

Blue Bunny Ice Cream is still family owned and operated by Wells Enterprises. Company headquarters are now located in Le Mars, Iowa.
