Frederick’s of Hollywood Corporate Office

Frederick’s of Hollywood was founded in Hollywood, California, by Frederick Mellinger in 1947. Mellinger was the inventor of the push up bra and sold racy lingerie at his stores in large cities and shopping malls across the country. The iconic store in Hollywood even had a “Lingerie Museum” where the underwear of movie stars was put on display.

The company was the leading seller of lingerie until Victoria’s Secret became prominent. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2001, but regrouped with Movie Star sleepwear and moved headquarters to New York. The company again had to file for bankruptcy in 2015 and close all the remaining stores. The name and brand was purchased by Authentic Brands Group, who also has headquarters in New York.

Today, the company operates as an eCommerce, online store only at this time. Authentic Brands has stated that they are considering selling their products in other retail outlets, but no release date has been set at this time.

In November 2020, the company began selling men’s pajamas and underwear again after a long hiatus.

The New York Times stated that Frederick’s of Hollywood has changed its theme from trashy to sexy in order to appeal to younger women.

Fingerhut Corporate Office

Fingerhut was founded in 1948 by brothers Manny and William Fingerhut. The brothers originally sold car seat covers, but soon expanded into catalog sales, which soon offered other items, such as tools, kitchen items, bedding, and towels.

The company has been sold several times over the years, including Federated Department Stores in 1999, Bain Capital Ventures in 2004, and currently to the Bluestem Group.

Fingerhut is an online retailer which offers a very wide variety of items, including iPads, curtains, Playstations, televisions, laptops, umbrellas, and more. The company differs from almost every other online company in that it has its own “Rent to Own” service, where customers can purchase items and make payments without using credit cards.

The company has come under fire recently for offering their merchandise at higher prices than most other stores, offering credit with an APR of 29.99%,  as well as for annoying “robocalls.”

CVS Corporate Office

CVS logo2

CVS was founded in Lowell, Massachusetts, by the Goldstein brothers in 1963.  By 1964, there were 17 CVS stores selling primarily health and beauty items.

In 1967, CVS opened its first stores with pharmacy departments in Rhode Island.  In 1969, CVS was sold to the Melville Corporation.

By 1970, there were 100 CVS stores in the New England and Northeastern US.  In 1972, the chain acquired Clinton Drug and Discount, which nearly doubled the size of the chain.

In 1988, the 750th location was opened.  In 1990, the chain acquired the 500 store chain Peoples Drug.  The stores were converted to CVS branding in 1994.

In 2004, CVS acquired Eckerd Drug, a 1200+ store chain.

The acronym CVS was said to originally stand for Consumer Value Stores.  Former CEO Thomas Ryan says it stands for Convenience, Value, and Service.

CVS pharmacy inside store CVS has filed lawsuits in 2019 trying to prevent former employees and executives from working for a subsidiary of Amazon, PillPack. CVS and other pharmacies appear to have concerns that Amazon will, in the near future, deal directly with pharmaceutical companies and health insurers, cutting prescription drug prices dramatically.

In April 2019, the company instated a policy where they would only offer a maximum of 3 test strips for diabetics, regardless of doctor’s orders, the number of strips in a prescription, the amount covered by insurance, or patient circumstances.

In July 2018, CVS stated they planned to roll out a program called RX Savings Finder, designed to show customers that CVS has the lowest prices.

CVS announced that they would close a record 900 locations across the US starting in January 2022.

CVS currently operates over 9,800 pharmacies in the US.  The CVS corporate office is located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
