Chopt Creative Salad Restaurant was founded in 2001 in New York City, New York, by current CEO and co-owner Nicholas Marsh. The company operates a chain of restaurants that mainly serve salads as a main course.

The company is different in that it serves salads or “salad wraps” as the main course. No refined sugars are used in the restaurant’s dressings, bur agave nectar and honey are used as replacements. Typical salads include fish, shrimp, or even nuts, fruits and grains. Customers order their salads, watch them being made, then pay for them at the end of the “salad bar”. Vegan choices, as well as a gluten-free menu, are also available.

In 2016, the company announced that it hired salad blogger Julia Sherman to represent their brand.

In October 2020, Chopt opened its 5th New Jersey location.

In May 2023, the company opened its first all-digital restaurant in Manhattan, New York.

Chopt has 80 locations in 7 states. Catering is available at every location. DoorDash is the third-party delivery service used by the company. Headquarters remain in New York City, New York.

GardenBurger was founded in 1982 by Paul Wenner in Gresham, Oregon, at Wenner’s restaurant. In 1985, the company incorporated under the name Wholesome and Hearty Foods, Inc.

The company produces and distributes vegetarian and vegan style “hamburgers”. The original vegetarian burger is made up of mushrooms, rice, oats, cheese, eggs, garlic and onions. Other “burgers” include Sun Dried Tomato, Black Bean Chipotle Burgers, and Portabella Burgers. In 2005 the company filed for bankruptcy, but continued to operate by going private. In 2007, GardenBurger was purchased by the Kellogg Company.
Although GardenBurgers has plants in Irvine, California, headquarters are located in Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg’s has their headquarters.

Garden of Life was founded in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, by current CEO Jordan S. Rubin in 2000. The company manufactures health foods, vitamins, and supplements. Originally named JSR Wellness, the company has branched out into having company stores, as well as selling online, rather than rely strictly on distributors.

The company offers a wide variety of vitamins and supplements, including food products, such as coconut oil, seeds, and protein bars. All products are certified as being organic, non-GMO, vegan, gluten free and/or kosher. In March of 2017, the company began marketing sports products. Garden of Life claims to be the #1 seller of multi-vitamins and probiotics in America. Products are sold in company owned stores, as well as most retailers, online stores, such as Amazon, and health food retailers.

In early 2016, the company was forced to issue an extensive recall on their product Raw Meal Organic Replacement for salmonella contamination from raw moringa leave powder. Garden of Life headquarters are still located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Full Belly Farm was founded in 1985 by Andrew Brait, Judith Redmond, Paul Muller, Dru Rivers, Jenna Muller, and Amon Muller. The farm is a certified organic farm, which offers food for sale by the box via an eCommerce site, wholesale, and through their local Farmer’s Market.

The company offers a wide variety of California Certified Organic foods, nuts, wool, and eggs. With approximately 80 different rotating crops, the farm stays open 365 days of the year, providing employment all year for farm laborers, as well as a staff of about 60 full time employees. The company offers their items to both wholesale and retail customers. Boxes of produce can be delivered to drop off locations, or retail customers can locate the company at the Farmer’s Market.

Drake Family Farms Corporate Office

Drake Family Farms was founded in West Jordan, Utah, in 1880 by English immigrant Edward Drake. Originally an agricultural farm, the Drake’s did not have more than a few farm animals until the 1980’s, when Dan Drake got a pet goat. The family began breeding goats, then selling goat products.

Today, the farm is almost exclusively about goats. The company sells pasteurized goat milk, goat cheese, flavored cheeses, and yogurt. Health requirements make pasteurizing goat milk and goat milk products a necessity, but many health enthusiasts go directly to the farm for fresh, raw goat milk. The company’s herd consists of Nubian, Saanen, Alpine, and Snubian Goats. (Snubians are a hybrid cross between Saanen and Nubians). In addition to foods, the company sells goat milk soap.

Drake Family Farms is still owned and operated by the Drake family. The company does not offer tours, but it does have a small store where products can be purchased. Products are also sold at local Whole Foods and other health stores in the area.
