Dollywood Corporate Office

Dollywood has its beginnings as far back as 1961, when the Robin brothers opened a small theme park called Rebel Railroad, which offered a Civil War theme. Rebel Railroad was sold several times over the years and in 1976, it was acquired by Jack and Pete Herschend. The park was renamed Silver Dollar City Tennessee. Dolly Parton, who grew up in the area, purchased an interest in the theme park in 1986. It was renamed, Dollywood.

The theme park has become very successful, with more than 3 million visitors attending each year. The park has expanded slowly and today includes a water park, a resort hotel, along with a dinner and show Dixie themed restaurant. With more than 3,000 full time employees, the company is the largest employer in the area.

Dollywood has doubled in size since 1986. It offers 27 rides, 8 of which are roller coasters, and another 4 are water rides. Dolly Parton announced in 2010 that she would like to open a second location, but no details were given and no firm plans have been established.

ZipCar Corporate Office

ZipCar was founded in June of 2000 by Robin Chase and Antje Danielson. The company operates a car sharing company. Danielson and Chase designed their company to be similar to car sharing programs already established in European countries. Cars are parked in strategic locations and clients pay a monthly fee in addition to being billed by the hour or the day. Smart phone apps unlock and activate the cars, as well as provide billing services. Fuel, parking, and insurance are all included in the price.

The company was purchased in March of 2014 for $500 million in cash by Avis Budget Group. The company now operates as a subsidiary. As of early 2016, the company stated that they had 1 million members in 500 cities and operates in 9 countries. The company uses more than 50 different makes and models of cars and light trucks.

ZipCar has been sued twice for charging “hidden”fees, including a surcharge for a parking ticket, even if the ticket was overturned, and for talking to a customer service representative regarding a disabled vehicle, even though there is no other way to report one.

Fox’s Pizza Den Corporate Office

Fox’s Pizza Den was founded in 1971 by Jim Fox in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania. With a $500 investment, Fox sold out all pizzas made the first day within the first 6 hours of opening. The company operates a chain of pizza restaurants across the US. All of the 280 locations, found in 28 states, are franchised. The company consistently ranks in the Top 25 pizza restaurants in the world.

In 2002 Jim Fox was named by the Small Business Administration as one of the country’s top entrepreneurs. Today, however, many of the franchises have closed due to bad business practices. This has lead to the SBA discontinuing lending money for new Fox Pizza franchises.

Goose Island Beer Company was founded in 1988 by current CEO John Hall after taking a trip around Europe. Hall liked the different beer flavors he found on his trip and decided that Americans who can’t go to Europe should be able to enjoy their beer.

The first brewpub was very small and was located in Lincoln Park, Chicago. The name comes from a nearby island. The company moved into a larger facility in 1995. A second location was opened 1999 in Wrigleyville. In 2011, Anheuser-Busch purchased the company.

The company offers tours of its brewing facility and boasts that they make more than 27 different flavored beers, although some are seasonal only items. The company has won more than 23 awards for their beers, including the 2010 World Beer Cup Bronze for Christmas Ale.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Corporate Office

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet was founded in 1982 by Morton Bernstein and Ollie Rosenberg in Mechanicsville, Pennsylvania. The company operates a chain of discount retail stores which feature closeouts, discontinued merchandise, bankruptcy sales, or overstock items.

The company is named for Mr. Rosenberg and a cartoon version of him still appears in store advertising and signs, although he passed away in 1996. The company has 213 locations in 19 states. In July of 2015, the company went public on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol: OLLI. In 2008 the company consolidated their 4 smaller warehouses and distribution centers into one central location in York, Pennsylvania. A second distribution center was built in 2014 in Commerce, Georgia.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet sells a bit of everything and has new merchandise appearing frequently. The company is well known for their NASCAR sponsorship, which they began in 2006.
