Island Snow Hawaii was founded in 1979 in KIailua, Oahu, by current CEO and owner James Kodama. Kodama envisioned a completely different store than the usual surf and sand shops. The company operates a small chain of clothing and shaved ice stores in Hawaii.

Snow is not something people think of when they come to Hawaii, but Kodama makes this thought process possible. “Snow”, in the company stores, means shaved ice. The stores sell both shaved ice and clothing advertising “Island Snow”. Clothing is made on the islands, as well as the shaved ice and flavors. The company sells men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, including long and short sleeved shirts, tank tops, shorts, and accessories, such as wallets and stickers for cars or surfboards.

Island Snow Hawaii has been frequented by President Barak Obama. There are currently two locations, one in Honolulu, the other in Kiailua, Hawaii.

Tom Thumb Food Market Corporate Office

TomThumb Food Market was founded in 1948 in Dallas, Texas, by J.R. Bost and Bob Cullum. The company operates a chain of supermarkets in the greater Dallas area.

The company more than tripled in size in the 1960’s, mostly through acquisitions. Online shopping and coupons began in 1997. In 2015, parent company AB Acquisition completed a sale of Tom Thumb stores to Safeway. Currently, the company has 57 stores that still retain the Tom Thumb name. Some stores acquired the Safeway Lifestyle brand. Safeway has since been acquired by Albertson’s in late 2015, but as of this writing, Tom Thumb stores are operating as a subsidiary.

Tom Thumb Food Market also offers a full service pharmacy, fueling stations, as well as a loyalty card.

In December 2020, Tom Thumb laid off approximately 97 delivery drivers, stating that its delivery system would become more streamlined.

He later discovered that his $2,400 “loan” was actually just a lease with an option to buy. Pet City states that the terms of the lease were explained at the time of sale, however, Mr. Brian Stevens says this was not the case.

Tire Kingdom was founded in Florida in 1972 by Chuck Curcio, who began by selling tires at a Farmer’s Market. The company operates a chain of tire and brake stores throughout the US.

The company grew quickly and was sold first to Michelin Tire in the late 1980’s, then to the TBC Corporation in 2000 for $45 million. All locations outside Florida are being rebranded as National Tire and Battery, while Florida locations will retain the Tire Kingdom name. Tire Kingdom operates as a subsidiary.

TBC also operates Big O Tires, National Tire and Battery, as well as Merchant Tire, all of which generally retain their own names and territories. Most locations are company owned stores, but there are franchised operations.

In 2015, TBC announced that all Tire Kingdom stores outside the state of Florida would be rebranded to the National Tire and Battery name.
