As of early 2016, the company had more than 400 locations in 36 states, and recently opened a large store in Toronto, Canada. In addition to clothing, the company also offers accessories, such as handbags, intimate apparel, and beauty items.

Torrid is searching for a new model to represent their stores in 2017. In 2016, more than 14,000 women were interviewed and the company has stated that they expect twice that many applicants in 2017. Torrid prefers using customers as models, rather than professional models or actresses.

In July of 2017, the company went public on the NYSE, under the ticker symbol: CURV.

The name comes from a quote from their great grandmother, who once said in an interview that women should not change their figures to suit fashion, but should bring fashion to the figure.

The company operates a chain of plus sized women and teenage girls clothing, sizes 12 to 26. As of late 2016, the company has 26 locations and secures their inventory from more than 100 fashion vendors. Current CEO Michael Kapalan says that the company feels that a wide array of vendors can offer their clients more choices.

He tried them and liked them so much he decided to start his own company in the US. Mycoskie also noticed that many of the children in Argentina could not afford shoes. Mycoskie decided to donate one pair of shoes for every pair that he sold.

Today, the company still donates one pair of shoes for every pair sold, as well as donating part of the profit from the sale of eyeglasses to vision care for the poor. In 2015, Mycoskie sold 50 percent of his interest in the company to Bain Capitol for $625 million. This former CEO believed that this new infusion of cash would help the company increase in size.

The company has been criticized, however, for lack of transparency regarding their shoe factories, which are based in Ethiopia, Argentina, and China.

Founder Blake Mycoskie told Inc. that running 6 companies full-time caused him to suffer from burnout, depression, and other health related issues. 

The canvas shoe market is expected to experience significant growth in 2021.
