Rue 21 Corporate Office

Rue 21 was originally known as Pennsylvania Fashions Inc.  Pennsylvania Fashions Inc filed for bankruptcy in 2002.  The 250 store chain was purchased by Saunders Karp & Megrue and renamed to Rue 21.

In 2009, the company opened its 500th location and went public.

In 2011, the company announced it would double the size of its distribution center in Weirton, West Virginia.

By 2012, there were 800 stores.

In 2013, the 900th store was opened.

Today, there are 1,213 Rue 21 stores in 48 US states.  The company is a discount retailer of young adult clothing and accessories.

Microsoft confirmed suspicions in 2019 that Cortana and Skype recordings were not private.

In mid-August 2019, the company warned users to update their Windows 10 systems immediately to avoid a virus that spreads malware between computers without any user interaction.

In 2006, the company was acquired by Bain Capital and taken private.

Today, there are over 500 Burlington Coat Factory stores in 44 US states and Puerto Rico.

In 2023, after Bed, Bath, and Beyond closed all of its stores, Burlington purchased the leases for at least 40 locations in June 2023.
