Ogle School Corporate Office

Ogle School is a cosmetology school founded in 1973 by Shelton Ogle in Arlington, Texas. Ogle’s grandfather was a well-known barber in Dallas, Texas. Ogle originally had planned to become an architect, but after he discovered that there was a shortage of well-trained cosmetologists, he changed his career path. He opened his first salon when he was 21 and his first school two years later.

Ogle School is today one of the most successful beauty schools in Texas. Ogle, himself, has a weekly beauty show on PBS television. The company has 8 locations across Texas. Ogle School is accredited and has been an approved member of The Better Business Bureau since 2013. The school boasts an 85% placement rate after graduation.

The company was purchased in January of 2015 by NCK Capital, a Dallas, Texas, based private equity firm which specializes in family business buyouts.

Shirokiya Corporate Office

Shirokiya was founded in what is now Tokyo, Japan, in 1662 by Hikotaro Omura.  This is one of Japan’s oldest retail stores. The original name, Shirokiya Gofukuten, would last for several hundred years.  The company started off as a dry goods store, but over time, it expanded and added clothing and other popular items. By 1903, the company had several locations.

The earthquake of 1923 destroyed the original store and a fire in 1932 engulfed another location. Word War II took most of the owners’ assets, however, the company began to use common Western marketing techniques to obtain more sales and this enabled the company to rebuild.

To avoid a hostile takeover, the company was sold to the seven executives of the store in Hawaii. Today, this is the only remaining store, however, this store has been extremely successful, with more than $40 million in revenue in 2007.

Shirokiya offers almost all things Japanese including beer, meals, snacks, gifts, cosmetics, jewelry, books, DVDs, cakes, fashion eyewear, and massage items.

Henri Bendel Corporate Office

Henri Bendel opened his first ladies hat shop in Greenwich Village, New York, in 1895.  The brown and white striped boxes that are a store signature were first used in 1907. Henri Bendel was the first store to offer Coco Chanel designs in the U.S. in 1913.

The company was sold to L.Designs in 1985. L.Designs is also the parent company of Bath and Body Works, as well as Victoria’s Secret. Today, the company has 29 locations across America. While the company still offers ladies hats, jewelry, and handbags, they no longer offer clothing.

Several accountants working for Henri Bendels were recently charged with embezzeling more than $170,000 because they were unhappy with their employee performance reviews. The parent company, L.Brands, had $1.7 billion in sales in 2014.

Von Maur was founded in 1872 by J.H.C. Petersen and his three sons in Davenport, Iowa. Petersen’s son, William, sold the store in 1916 to R. Harned and the Von Maur brothers. The Von Maur’s assumed complete ownership of the company after Harned passed away in 1937.

Today, the company has 30 locations and offers upscale clothing, footwear, ladies handbags, jewelry, and accessories. Von Maur is known for offering an interest free credit card, free shipping, free shipping for online returns, and free gift wrapping. Most Von Maur stores feature a live pianist playing music during business hours.

Von Maur is continuing to open new stores at a time when many locations are cutting back. The company announced that they would take over the former Nordstrom location in the Mall of Georgia, as well as open a second store in the Minneapolis-St.Paul area in the fall of 2016.
