Noom was founded in 2008 after founders Saeju Jeong & Artem Petakov realized that most people had no problem dieting to lose weight, but the problem was keeping it off.

Noom is a website and mobile phone app that offers healthy meal suggestions, a weight loss coach to help clients, and group rooms where clients can connect with like-minded people.

The app refreshes daily with about eight tasks that the app will ask you to complete. Most of the tasks are short articles to read, usually about nutrition, but often about psychological approaches—mindfulness, for instance—that reframe your outlook on dieting, or even life. Zahir Dossa, Hien Nguyen, and Joshua Maciejewski founded Function of Beauty in 2015 after realizing that you could purchase customized makeup, skincare products, even custom earplugs, but when it came to shampoo and conditioner, clients had to make do with whatever was on the shelf.

Function of Beauty has clients fill out a questionnaire about their hair, then customizes shampoo and conditioner to fit a client’s special needs.

The company’s success has been nothing short of phenomenal. Just two years after founding, the company was valued at $110 million. This enables the founders to enjoy what they love most; flying.

Function of Beauty is also earth-friendly, making all plastic parts from recycled materials, caps are made from aluminum that is made to be recycled, and products are NOT tested on animals.

CEO Zahir Dossa admits that the product isn’t cheap, but it also is not made in China or Taiwan, but at a factory in Pennslyvania.

In January 2023, Target shoppers will be able to find their favorite Function of Beauty products in most stores.

The company operates a subscription-based food delivery service intended to offer healthy, plant based frozen foods. The company delivers food and beverages that are developed by nutritionists and include items such as smoothies, soups, bowls, lattes, and breakfast options, enabling health-conscious subscribers to eat pre-portioned foods without having to cook.

The company released a study, published in January 2020, that at least 72% of Americans admit that they do not eat a fresh fruit or vegetable every day.

Daily Harvest wants to change that by offering easy to heat or defrost frozen fruit and veggie options.

While these meals are very nutritious, they aren’t designed to live off of, which means most people will still need to visit their local grocery store. The company has also been criticized for the price of their packages, as well as the fact that not all of the packaging is recyclable.

In January 2021 the company announced that it was going to offer a cleaner, more healthy option to the plant-based milk formulas (Almond milk) that are available in most grocery stores.

After hurting his back playing football, Joe Kudla began practicing yoga to help relieve his pain. He quickly realized that women had all sorts of yoga clothing, but there was nothing for men other than sweatpants.

Kudla founded Vuori in 2013. He wanted to create athletic and workout clothing for both sexes that you wouldn’t mind wearing to the grocery store as well. The company’s logo is,  “Built to Move in, Styled for Life”

Kudla believes that his company’s success lies in its multi-channel approach. Offering the company’s items in retail locations, as well as on-line and via pop-up stores, Vuori opened its first brick and mortar location in late December 2020.

In August 2019, the company received $45 million in investor funding.

In February 2023, Vuori announced that it would open a new store in Washington, D.C.

The business originally sold household garden supplies, but in the 1950s Luther Adams “Bo” Breck, the fifth-generation Breck, transformed the family business into a Dutch bulb importer and flower bulb catalog company.

In 2001, Breck’s was acquired by Gardens Alive! when then-parent company Foster & Gallagher went bankrupt.

Today, Breck’s is the largest importer of Dutch flower bulbs.

In 2019, Breck’s conducted a study of the most popular flowering plants in every state. This study was published online through Better Homes and Gardens.

Bulbs and other garden items can still be ordered through Breck’s catalogs or from the company website.
