The company designs and manufactures midcentury modern furniture, specializing in sofas.

The furniture is often brightly colored, reasonably priced, and the company offers free shipping in most cases, making this an attractive option for many.

Originally an eCommerce company, JoyBird has since opened 8 showrooms in major US cities such as Chicago and Los Angeles.

All furniture is made in Tijuana, Mexico. There are no warehouses, furniture is made when a client places an order. Most items can be custom-made as well, such as changing the lounger on a sectional to be placed on the right side, rather than the left side, a sofa that is 6 inches longer than the one shown, or making the legs shorter or taller than what is considered standard.

The company will also email clients photos of their furniture as it is being constructed.

In June 2018, La-Z-Boy acquired JoyBird furniture for an undisclosed amount.

The Lovesac Company had filed a lawsuit against JoyBird furniture for patent infringement. In June 2022, both parties settled privately out of court, with the terms of the resolution being kept confidential.

Mark Lawrence founded Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour in 1995. Known for its generous portion sizes and unique flavors, such as Mashpee Mud, this small ice cream shop rakes in not only positive reviews but is frequently on many “Best Ice Cream” lists.

The “can’t miss” bubblegum pink and white location is popular with both locals and tourists.

Polar Cave not only serves walk-up customers but also provides drive-up service, where customers can wait in their air-conditioned cars for service.

Despite being a popular destination, the company has had trouble hiring new employees. At first, CEO and owner Mark Lawrence believed it was due to Covid, but even in 2022, offering $20 an hour, Lawrence still has problems hiring.

Due to the staffing shortage, customers have waited 30-60 minutes to be served, causing some customers to berate and belittle what are usually high-school or college-aged staffers.

Harassment of staff became so ugly in 2020 that Lawrence closed the ice cream parlour for a while.

Founded in 1926 and originally named Camp Kugaho, Kanakuk Kamps is a Christian-operated summer camp for children of all ages.

Today, Kanakuk Ministries remains under the decades-long leadership of Joe White, and his wife Debbie-Jo, Vice President, who inherited their roles from Joe’s parents in the 1970s.

Their son, Cooper, is also on the board of directors, and daughter Jamie Jo serves as the organization’s Director of Alumni Engagement.

In fact, some churches, in light of possible new allegations, have canceled contracts with Kanakuk Kamps for hosting their children’s summer camps.

In February 2022, a court awarded almost $30 million to the victims of sexual assault and abuse at the camps.
