Michelle Cerriker was a successful esthetician and makeup artist in Los Angeles, California, for many decades. After going through multiple surgeries for breast cancer, Michelle wanted to create products that would restore her beautiful hair and skin without the usual chemical additives.

Blumen was founded in 2017. The company’s products include cosmetics, shampoo, and skin care products that are vegan-friendly and use only natural ingredients, such as mango oil and white tea.

Jim and Margaret Knudson had never heard of tacos before they ate some at a friends house in 1949. In fact, much of the US had yet to hear about Mexican tacos. Jim, known in his town as Jimboy, decided tacos would be a hit. He converted a trailer and took it to Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe, California. He was right.

Franchising began out of Sacramento, California, in 1969. Today, there are 40 locations throughout California, Texas, and Washington. In 2013, the company announced that it would go international with locations in India.

Kloss Furniture and Outlet Corporate Office

After operating Kloss Meat Market for nearly 17 years, Delmar and Doris Kloss wanted to try something different. They opened Kloss Furniture in Highland, Illinois, in 1976. When Delmar passed away, Doris and her son Steve continued to operate the business.

The company offers a wide range of furniture and mattresses, selling top brands including Bassett and Serta. From a single location, the company has grown into 5 showrooms, two outlet centers, and Mattress 1st stores in St. Louis, which strictly sell mattresses and bedroom items.

The original showroom in Highland burned to the ground in 1998. The family operated out of an old warehouse, dubbed The Tin Shed. The no-frills warehouse with very low overhead proved to be a winning financial decision for the business.

In 2007, the Kloss family saw an opportunity to expand when an out of business supermarket in Highland was renovated Kloss furniture took ownership.

Skip Scooters Corporate Office

Founded in 2017, Skip is the latest electric scooter company to enter the market. Skip stands out from the competition by offering an online safety class, as well as free helmets that can be ordered online.

Shalin Mantri, formerly of Uber, designed the scooters, which come with rear-facing cameras, a retractable lock, and a battery that can be swapped out, so there is no downtime for charging. Renters do not have access to the camera, it is designed to keep records so Skip can monitor parking compliance and learn about rider behavior.

CEO Sanjay Dastoor hopes the retractable lock will help stop the theft of scooters, which has been a problem for other companies. The company has also made their scooter a bit sturdier in hopes that they last longer since some scooter companies have reported that, with frequent use, scooters have worn out within 2 months.

Skip is currently the only scooter company that hasn’t been hit with a cease and desist order, according to CEO Sanjay Dastoor. The scooters are currently being used in San Francisco and Washington, D. C.

Originally called Waybots, Skip executives worked with city officials, rather than dumping scooters on city streets than asking for forgiveness. By learning from the mistakes of other scooter companies, such as Bird and Lime, Skip hopes to take over the scooter market.
