Chris Wilson founded Upper Edge Technology in 2011. While studying to do overseas mission work, Wilson began repairing and reselling Dell computer products. The business began in Wilson’s apartment but quickly outgrew that space.

In March 2020, despite the coronavirus pandemic, Brandsmart stated that their stores would remain open.  

In mid-September 2020, several Brandsmart parking lots were being used as drive-through COVID testing centers.
