Andy & Evan was founded in 2010 by current co-CEO’s Andy Perl and Evan Hakalir in New York, New York. Shirokiya Corporate Office

Shirokiya was founded in what is now Tokyo, Japan, in 1662 by Hikotaro Omura.  This is one of Japan’s oldest retail stores. The original name, Shirokiya Gofukuten, would last for several hundred years.  The company started off as a dry goods store, but over time, it expanded and added clothing and other popular items. By 1903, the company had several locations.

The earthquake of 1923 destroyed the original store and a fire in 1932 engulfed another location. Word War II took most of the owners’ assets, however, the company began to use common Western marketing techniques to obtain more sales and this enabled the company to rebuild.

To avoid a hostile takeover, the company was sold to the seven executives of the store in Hawaii. Today, this is the only remaining store, however, this store has been extremely successful, with more than $40 million in revenue in 2007.

Shoes.Com was founded in 1996 when Sean Clark found that he was unable to have a pair of shoes shipped to him in Canada from the U.S. His wife suggested he start his own business, and Shoes.Com was founded. The original name was ShoeMe.CA. The company purchased Shoes.Com in 2014 and merged both companies under the single name.

Today, Shoes.Com employs more than 250 persons and does $200 million in sales annually. The company offers more than 500 brands of shoes,such as New Balance, Nine West, Nike, and Adidas, as well as athletic apparel, to their 8 million customers in the U.S. and Canada.

The company was acquired by Walmart for $70 million in 2017. 

In January 2021, the company was acquired by Jackrabbit for an undisclosed amount.

6PM.Com offers online shopping for new and discounted women’s, men’s, and children’s shoes, ladies handbags, luxury watches, backpacks, swimwear, coats, sweaters, jeans, ladies skirts, and children’s clothing. The company also offers a wide range of men’s wear including underwear, socks, jeans, sweatshirts, and belts. In May of 2010, a glitch in a computer system accidentally priced everything online at $49.99, including GPS navigation systems and other items costing several hundred dollars. 6PM.Com stood by their online pricing, which cost the company $1.6 million.

Von Maur Corporate Office

Von Maur was founded in 1872 by J.H.C. Petersen and his three sons in Davenport, Iowa. Petersen’s son, William, sold the store in 1916 to R. Harned and the Von Maur brothers. The Von Maur’s assumed complete ownership of the company after Harned passed away in 1937.
