Zappos Corporate Office

Nick Swinmurn founded Zappos in 1999 as Shoesite.com.

Swinmurn raised $2 million from investment firm Venture Frogs to launch the company.

Just a few months after the launch, Swinmurn changed the name of the company from Shoesite.com to Zappos, which was a play on the Spanish word for shoes, zapatos.

In 2000 Zappos had $1.6 million in revenue.

The company grew quickly, with $70 million in revenue in 2003, $840 million in 2007, and $1 billion in sales in 2008.

In 2009 Zappos was acquired by Amazon in a $940 million stock and cash deal.

Today Zappos is the #1 online shoe retailer and stocks 3 million pairs of shoes, handbags, apparel, and accessories.

MySpace soon surpassed Friendster in its speed of development.

The site gained popularity quickly with young adults and teenagers.

In 2005 News Corporation bought Myspace for $580 million.

From 2005 to 2008 MySpace was the most visited social networking site in the world and in 2006 surpassed Google as the most visited website in the United States.

In 2008 MySpace began losing ground to Facebook and since then the number of users has declined every year.

In 2011 MySpace was sold for $35 million to Justin Timberlake and and Specific Media Group.

In 2016, Time, Inc., purchased MySpace and Time, along with MySpace, was sold to Meredith Corporation in 2018.  

Today MySpace is a social networking service that has a strong emphasis on music. MySpace has 150 employees and had $109 million in revenue in 2016.

The company merged again in 1950, becoming Phillips-Van Huesen (PVH).

PVH acquired many companies over the years, notably IZOD and Arrow in 2000, Calvin Klein in 2002, Superba Inc in 2007, and Tommy Hilfiger in 2010.

Today PVH is the world’s largest dress shirt and neckwear company. The company has more than 1,000 retail stores and sells its merchandise through retailers, licensees, franchisees, and distributors.

PVH is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PVH, is a member of the S&P 500, is #422 on the Fortune 500, has 16,700 employees, and had $8.19 billion in revenue in 2013.

The channel received negative reviews and calls of bait and switch after it advertised that Paul Rosolie, host of Eaten Alive, was going to go headfirst and be eaten by a 20-foot anaconda snake. After 90 minutes, it became clear that Rosolie was wearing a compression suit and that while the confused snake did attack, he was not going to be eaten.
