Tello was founded in 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia, a subsidiary of KeepCalling.Net, which was founded in 2002 by Florin Miron.  The company is an MVNO, which is a wireless company that does not own the wireless network, but contracts with a network, who will provide the equipment for service. This allows companies such as Tello to provide bulk rate prices, resulting in cheaper cell phone bills.

Tello has no monthly fees and no contracts. Calls and texts can be made to other countries. Plans run from as little as $10 a month for 1 GB of data, unlimited texting and unlimited phone minutes. The company uses the Sprint network, which covers nearly the entire United States.
