Tim Brown, a New Zealand native, was well-versed in the qualities of merino wool but was surprised to find that it was not used in footwear.

AllBirds was founded in 2015. The company makes a variety of shoes made from New Zealand Merino wool and keeps their products as environmentally friendly as possible, such as using recycled paper for the cardboard boxes the shoes are shipped in.

In March 2018, the company added shoes that were made from eucalyptus tree fibers.

History

The name comes from the fact that New Zealand has very few indigenous land animals, but has so many birds that it is often called the land of “all birds”.

While the shoes are made from materials sourced in New Zealand, the shoes are assembled in South Korea.

As of January 2021, Allbirds has brick and mortar stores in several countries including New Zealand, the United States, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, and Japan.

In May 2020, footwear giant Adidas announced that they had created a partnership with AllBirds.

Knightsbridge Restaurant Group was founded in Washington, D.C., in 1989. Ashok Bajaj founded Knightsbridge Restaurant Group in 1989 when he launched its first restaurant, The Bombay Club, to provide the city with an international restaurant featuring gourmet regional Indian cuisine. Since then, he has opened 10 more restaurants featuring, modern Indian, modern American, Italian, and Israeli cuisine.

The company has been nominated for many RAMMY awards from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) and has also been consistently nominated for prestigious awards by the James Beard Foundation including Best Chef-Mid Atlantic, Rising Star Chef, Outstanding Restaurant and Restaurateur of the Year. Noom was founded in 2008 after founders Saeju Jeong & Artem Petakov realized that most people had no problem dieting to lose weight, but the problem was keeping it off.

Noom is a website and mobile phone app that offers healthy meal suggestions, a weight loss coach to help clients, and group rooms where clients can connect with like-minded people.

The app refreshes daily with about eight tasks that the app will ask you to complete. Most of the tasks are short articles to read, usually about nutrition, but often about psychological approaches—mindfulness, for instance—that reframe your outlook on dieting, or even life. Others are quick tests that quiz you on the articles.

History

Noom prides itself on being more than just a “diet”. The plan is also designed to incorporate psychological approaches to help prevent overeating, mindless eating, and/or emotional triggers.

The initial start-up is “free”, but if you should decide that Noom isn’t for you, canceling the plan is difficult. So difficult, in fact, that the Better Business Bureau has issued a warning regarding this problem.

Zahir Dossa, Hien Nguyen, and Joshua Maciejewski founded Function of Beauty in 2015 after realizing that you could purchase customized makeup, skincare products, even custom earplugs, but when it came to shampoo and conditioner, clients had to make do with whatever was on the shelf.

Function of Beauty has clients fill out a questionnaire about their hair, then customizes shampoo and conditioner to fit a client’s special needs.

The company’s success has been nothing short of phenomenal. Just two years after founding, the company was valued at $110 million. This enables the founders to enjoy what they love most; flying.

History

Function of Beauty is also earth-friendly, making all plastic parts from recycled materials, caps are made from aluminum that is made to be recycled, and products are NOT tested on animals.

CEO Zahir Dossa admits that the product isn’t cheap, but it also is not made in China or Taiwan, but at a factory in Pennslyvania.

In January 2023, Target shoppers will be able to find their favorite Function of Beauty products in most stores.
