International House of Pancakes or IHOP for short, was founded in 1958 by Al and Jerry Lapin.  The first location was in Burbank, California, across the street from what would become the longest standing restaurant.

In 1960, the company begins franchising and in 1961 the company goes public.

In 1973, the acronym IHOP is introduced in their marketing for the first time. ihop 2

In 1985, the Rooty Tooty Fresh N’ Fruity is introduced. While the main focus of the company is on breakfast, they also offer lunch, dinner, desserts, and appetizers. The company is open on Thanksgiving day and their traditional menu of turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans is a popular item. ihop 4

In 1992, the 500th IHOP location opens.  In 2001, the 1000th IHOP location opens.

In 2007, IHOP’s parent company, DineEquity, successful acquires the Applebee’s chain of restaurants. ihop 3

In mid-2018 the company tried an advertising campaign pretending to change their name to IHOB (International House of Burgers) This was merely a gimmick to increase attention to their lunch and burger specials.

In December 2018, the company dropped their advertising campaign from the Tucker Carlson Show after the talk show host went on an anti-immigrant rant.

In August 2021, the company began a trial of serving alcohol at select locations.

Today, IHOP operates over 1650 restaurants in the US, mostly franchises. Company headquarters are located in Glendale, California. In 2006, the company had annual revenue of $349.6 million. ihop 1

Zynga was founded in 2007 by current CEO Mark Pincus under the name Presidio Media.  The company name was changed to Zynga that same year.

The company’s first game was Texas Hold’Em Poker, now called Zynga Poker which was released on Facebook in July of 2007.

The company received nearly $40 million in venture funding in 2008.

In 2009, Zynga became the top Facebook app publisher with nearly 40 million monthly users.  In June 2009, the company released Farmville and 2 months later had 10 million daily active users.

In 2010, the company acquired XPD Media, Challenge Games (now Zynga Austin), Conduit Labs and Dextrose (now Zynga Germany).

The company went public in 2011 under symbol ZNGA.

In 2012, the company acquired OMGPOP and their hit game Draw Something for $180 million.

Zynga currently has over 265 million monthly active users.

Allstate was founded in 1925 as a division of Sears.  Allstate was originally a tire brand but became an insurance brand in 1931.  They originally sold auto insurance via direct mail.

In 1950, David Ellis created the slogan, “You’re in good hands with Allstate”.  The company added fire, homeowners and life insurance in the 1950’s.

In 1967, the company headquarters was moved from Skokie to Northbrook, where it still resides today.

In 1985, Allstate agents began to move out of Sears stores and into neighborhood offices.

In 1995, Sears spun off Allstate as a separate company.

In 1999, the company acquired the personal lines of CNA Financial and renamed them under the Encompass Insurance brand.

In 2003, Dennis Haysbert was hired as the Allstate spokesperson.

In 2018, the company announced it would hire 2,500 more people in Arizona and that they were considering opening a campus headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona.

Britax was formed in 1939 out of a company called British Accessories.

In 1973, the company acquired Germany company Romer and also launched their first child car seat.

In 1986, Australian company Safe-N-Sound was acquired.  In 1987, the company acquired Steelcraft.

History

In 1996, Britax USA is formed and their first car seat, the Freeway, is launched in the US.  A year later, the Roundabout, their first convertible car seat is launched.

In 1997, the first booster seat is launched.  The first ISOFIX seat is also launched.  ISOFIX eventually becomes the LATCH system.

In 2000, Britax launches their first infant car seat.

Britax is currently the best selling child car seat manufacturer in Europe and one of the top manufacturers in the USA.  In addition to carseats, the company also produces strollers, baby carriers and other accessories.

Bob Evans Corporate Office

Bob Evans was founded in 1948 in in Rio Grande, Ohio.  Bob originally began making sausage for his 12 stool diner. Customers told him that he had the best sausage ever. However, demand was greater than he could supply. Bob made a deal with his cousin Tim Evans, who ran a packing plant, to follow his recipe, then pack and ship the sausage.

History

Evans began selling his sausage all across Ohio, mainly to grocery stores. Restaurants weren’t interested, telling Evans that customers didn’t care for and wouldn’t pay for high-quality sausage. Evans didn’t agree and opened his own restaurant. bob 4

In 1963, the company went public as Bob Evans Farms.  In 1964, a Michigan restaurant was opened, the first location outside Ohio.

In 1971, Bob’s cousin Dan Evans becomes President and CEO.

In 1983, the 100th restaurant is opened.

In 1987, the company acquired Owens Country Sausage.

In 2000, Dan Evans retires.  download

In 2002, the company opens its 500th restaurant.

Bob Evans dies of pneumonia in 2007.

In September of 2017, Bob Evans restaurants were acquired by Post Holdings for $1.5 billion. The sale was completed in January of 2018, thus removing Bob Evans from the NASDAQ. The CEO firmly stated that no restaurant locations would close because of the sale.

Bob Evans currently operates more than 600 locations in 24 states. Annual revenue in 2012 was $1.669 billion. The company employs more than 46,000 persons. Headquarters are still located in New Albany, Ohio.
