Curtiss-Wright Corporation was formed in 1929 when 12 companies merged to form the largest aviation company in the country with $75 million in capital.

The new company was made up of three main divisions: Curtiss-Wright Airplane Division produced airframes, Wright Aeronautical Corporation manufactured aircraft engines, and Curtiss-Wright Propeller produced propellers.

History

The company grew into an aeronautical pioneer and manufactured the engines that powered the B-17 bomber and The Spirit of St. Louis.

Today the company produces special valves for military and commercial applications including nuclear plants, refineries, and submarines, actuation systems, stabilize aiming systems including electronic controls and sensors, and computer systems for military ground vehicles.

Curtiss-Wright Corporation trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CW, is a member of the S&P 600, is a member of the Russell 2000, is #833 in the Fortune 1000, has 9,000 employees, and had $2.391 billion in revenue in 2020.

In September 2022, Curtiss-Wright won a major $120 million contract with the US Department of the Navy for a new submarine.

Cantor Fitzgerald spun-off its brokerage services firm in 2004 as BGC Partners.

Olin Corporation was founded in 1892 by Franklin W. Olin as the Equitable Powder Company. The company originally supplied explosives to local coal mines and quarries, and expanded into cartridge production in 1898.

Olin founded the Western Cartridge Company with his sons, John and Spencer, in order to diversify his business. Western acquired many businesses, including a paper manufacturer, a fiber wad facility, a cartridge brass manufacturing facility, and founded a brass mill.

In 1944 all of the Olin companies were unified under the new holding company Olin Industries, now known as Olin Corporation.
