National Public Radio replaced the National Education Radio Network in 1971. The Public Broadcasting Act, signed into law in 1967, also created the Public Broadcasting Service for television.

NPR suffered an almost fatal setback in 1983 when efforts to expand services created a deficit of nearly $7 million (equivalent to $19 million in 2022 dollars).

After a Congressional investigation and the resignation of NPR’s then-president Frank Mankiewicz, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting agreed to lend the network money in order to stave off bankruptcy. 

History

NPR is an American privately and publicly funded nonprofit media organization. The company produces and distributes news stories and cultural events, as well as serving as a national syndicator to more than 1,000 public radio stations.

NPR also has a mobile phone app where clients can view current news stories.

In December 2018, The Washington Post reported that between 20 and 22 percent of NPR staff was classified as temporary, while this compares to about five percent of a typical for-profit television station.

Some of the temporary staff members told the newspaper the system was “exploitative”, but NPR’s president of operations said the current system was in place because the station is a “media company that strives to be innovative and nimble.”

In February 2023, NPR announced that it would lay off about 100 employees due to decreased revenue.

Teva Shoes Corporate Office

Geophysicist Mark Thatcher was working as a river guide in the Grand Canyon when he realized that the shoes most people wore were not suitable for river or rafting trips. Tennis shoes became very heavy when wet and took days to dry, flip-flops would break or become lost, and sandals offered very little protection.

Thatcher created sandals that covered the toes but had an ankle strap to help secure them in place. He called his creation Teva, which is Hebrew for “nature.”

After difficulties with the first manufacturer, Thatcher set up an exclusive licensing agreement with Deckers Corporation to manufacture and distribute Teva sandals.

History

Deckers eventually obtained exclusive rights to Teva, including US patent #4,793,075 for the basic design and a trademark for the brand name. The sandal was redesigned, creating the Universal Strapping System. The first model, called “Hurricane”, is the basis of all Teva sandals.

In November 2002, Deckers Outdoor Cooperation acquired the worldwide Teva patents, trademarks, and other assets from Mark Thatcher. Teva sandals are currently manufactured in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

In June 2022, Teva paired up with Igloo, creating a color scheme where customers can buy Teva sandals that match their Igloo cooler.

Teva is often listed as one of the most comfortable sandals in the world.

In January 2023, Walmart was accused of stealing sandal designs from Teva and Ugg.

Teva maintains a corporate office in Goleta, California.

ICIMS

ICIMS was founded in Holmdel, New Jersey, in 2000. The name is an acronym for  Internet Collaborative Information Management Systems.

ICIMS operates cloud-based software for human resources and recruiting.

In June 2022, the company was named a leader in the IDC Marketscape: Worldwide Modern Talent Acquisition Suites 2022 Vendor Assessment.  

History

In a 2022 survey of recent graduates, ICIMS discovered that many grads have different expectations of what a “work force” is and they all appear to want much more flexibility than what previous grads expected.

This same survey also found that 37 percent of new grads feel that it shouldn’t matter what they wear to the job.

Banyan Hill is a subsidiary of Agora Financial, which also publishes investor advice.

The company has a team of financial experts and advisors but appears to rest heavily on advisor Paul Mampilly.

History

Banyan Hill is an extremely fast-growing company, with estimated revenue increasing from $6 million in 2016 to $113 million in 2019.

Jeff Yastine, an advisor with Banyan Hill, correctly predicted that the stock market would continue to grow in 2020 but that it faced uncertain times in 2021.

Other advisors on the Banyan Hill staff include Chad Shoop and Ian King.

As time passed, the Salomons began to focus on other sports, including ski boarding and shoes for these sports.

In addition to shoes for skiing, hiking, running, and other sports, the company makes skis and other sports equipment.

In fact, trail running shoes are quickly becoming the #1 sports shoe in demand and Salomon is one of the best-selling brands on the market.

Even the Wall Street Journal states that, as of April 2022, Asics and Salomon are the hottest shoes on the market.
