Tijuana Flats was founded in 1995 by Brian Wheeler. Wheeler loved Tex-Mex cuisine and wanted to start his own restaurant. Wheeler was just out of college, however, and had no funds. He borrowed $20,000 from his parents and opened the first location in Winter Park, Florida.

Today, Tijuana Flats has more than 100 locations in 6 states and has 3,000 full time employees. Wheeler’s father also works for the company as well. Wheeler also markets his own hot sauce, which is sold throughout the US, called “Smack My Ass & Call Me Sally.”

In addition to the restaurants and hot sauce, the company also provides catering service. Tijuana Flats also donates all of the profit from their Just In Queso hot sauce to local charities, such as the American Red Cross.

Drury Hotels was founded in 1959 by James Drury. The original hotel was in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. This 108 room hotel was called Holiday Inn. The first hotel built to be called Drury was located in Sikeston, Missouri, in 1973. Today, the hotel chain has more than 120 locations in 21 states.

The hotel chain also goes by other names including Pear Tree Inns, Drury Inn and Suites, Drury Plaza Hotel, and Drury Suites. The company is still owned by the Drury family, with Chuck Drury currently working as CEO and President.

Drury Hotels which feature suites offer extensive amenities such as full restaurants, business centers, guest pantry, and laundry and fitness centers. The hotel chain is considered to be an upper midscale priced lodging service.

The company began franchising in 1994. Roland Dickey, Jr., was placed as CEO in 2006. QSR Magazine listed Dickey’s Barbecue Pit as one of the “Best Franchise Deals” in 2012. National Restaurant News also awarded Dickey’s Barbecue Pit a spot on their “Top 10 Chain Growth.”

In 2015, the company began using a data collection service called Smoke Stack to try to improve customer traffic by monitoring sales figures.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit continues to use the same barbecue recipe since 1941. Today, there are more than 520 locations in 43 states. Headquarters for Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is located in Dallas, Texas.

Sure Filter was founded in 1999 in Santa Clarita, California. The company is the 4th largest producer of automotive and commercial truck filters in the world.

The company has factories in Indonesia that make gas, oil, and air filters for a wide variety of automotive, truck, and commercial truck applications, as well as diesel motors. Sure Filter moved their U.S. headquarters from Santa Clarita, California, to Concord, California in late June of 2015.

Sure Filter is continually coming out with new filters as new model vehicles are produced. The company sells both in bulk or individual packages. Sales are currently done via online catalogs.

Taco Time was founded by Ron Fraedrick, in 1959 in Eugene, Oregon. Fraedrick took out a second mortgage on his home and borrowed an additional $5,000 to get started. His idea for a walk-up taco stand near the university was very successful.

History

The first franchise was located in Tacoma, Washington, in 1962. Over the next decade, the company grew rapidly and by the end of the 1960s, there were 48 locations in 7 western states. Today, Taco Time has more than 300 franchised locations in the US, as well as international locations in Canada, Kuwait, and the Netherlands.

The company was purchased by Kahala Brands in 2003 and headquarters were moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. Taco Time features the usual tacos and other Mexican-style foods, such as nachos, but the company also offers a unique crispy burrito and salads to its menu that most casual Mexican food chains do not offer.

In February 2023, Ontario, Canada’s, biggest Taco Time location closed permanently after 30 years in business.

In June 2023, some Taco Time locations stopped accepting cash as a means of payment.

Taco Tim maintains a corporate office in Scottsdale, Arizona.
