Good and Rogers wanted to start a restaurant that used fresh ingredients and cooked menu items from scratch, similar to homemade food. The company is known for having twice as many chefs as other restaurants as cooking from scratch takes more time.

History

Today, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen has more than 160 locations in 23 states, with 60 of these locations being franchised operations. The company is owned by Oak Investment Partners and Catterton Partners. In April of 2017, the company became a subsidiary of Darden Restaurants, Inc. The Cheddar’s headquarters in Irving, Texas, was dismantled and some workers took positions at Darden headquarters in Orlando, Florida.

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen has won several food awards, including Zagat’s 2012 #1 Full Service Restaurant Chain and Top Rated Food Award. The company also was rated #1 in Consumer Reports under the Best Pub or Grilled Food category in 2009.

In January 2023, the CEO of Darden’s stated that Cheddar’s was about to become the company’s second-largest and most popular restaurant chain.

Scout Alarm was founded in 2013 by current CEO Dan Roberts and his friend David Shapiro when they went to purchase a security system for a home and discovered that not only was the technology 20 years behind the times, but it was extremely expensive. This pair decided to create a security system that was affordable, yet relied on current technology.

The company started a crowdfunding campaign to create their proto-types, as well as offering pre-production discounts. Today, the company has sold more than 500,000 systems in less than 2 years. State of the art video cameras offer two way audio, night vision, 1080P, and offers live streams to smartphones, tablets, or computers.

Scout Alarm also offers video monitoring services, by persons who will notify the police if they view suspicious activity. One of the main differences between Scout Alarm and other security services is that other services offer 3rd party monitoring or self-monitoring, but not both.

The company has made several acquisitions over the years, including Weiner’s Stores, Factory 2 – U Stores, Anna’s Linens, and Conway Stores. National Stores operate under several different names including Fallas, Fallas Paredes, Factory 2 – U, CW Price, Anna’s Linens by Fallas, Conway, and Fallas Discount Stores. From one single location in downtown Los Angeles, the company has grown to more than 350 locations in 22 states and Puerto Rico.

The company recently closed its 600,000 square foot warehouse in Otay Mesa, California, to a warehouse in Perris, California, as it represents a more central location for distribution.

In the early part of 2016, the company acquired one of the largest security service providers in the country, ADT Security Services for $42.00 per share, cash. Once the sale is complete, it is expected that all Protection 1 providers will be rebranded to the ADT name.

Colony Brands, originally called Swiss Colony, was founded in 1926 in Monroe, Wisconsin. Ray Kubly thought that the large Swiss population there would be interested in buying cheese imported from their country.The company’s first year saw only 50 orders, but soon grew quickly. Later it added other food items to the mail order catalog, including sausage, baked goods, and candy. In 1982, the company began offering non-food items such as bedding, home furnishings, electronics, games, and jewelry.

History

Today, Colony Brands operates catalog and retail stores under several names including Montgomery Wards, Ginny’s, One Step Ahead, Through the Country Door, Swiss Colony, Midnight Velvet, and the Wisconsin Cheeseman.

In December 2020, the company acquired Care Supply for an undisclosed sum.

The company employs more than 6,000 people, about 50 percent of these during the busy winter holiday season. The company officially changed its name to Colony Brands, Inc., in 2010.
