Morton’s SteakHouse was founded by two friends and co-workers Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch. Fritsch made a hamburger for Morton, who said it was the best burger ever. The pair decided to leave their jobs at the Playboy Club in Montreal and opened their own restaurant, originally named Morton’s of Chicago, in Chicago, Illinois, in 1978.

History

Today, Morton’s SteakHouse is a subsidiary of Landry’s, Inc. The company has 70 locations, including the original location at the Newbury Plaza in Chicago, in several states, as well as a few international locations. Morton’s is well known as an upscale steak restaurant that offers private rooms and banquet dining.

In October 2021, the company opened a location in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The company often hosts ESPN’s Lunch with a Legend series, using various locations. When Landry’s acquired Morton’s SteakHouse in 2012, company headquarters were moved to Houston, Texas.

Citgo was founded in1910 by Henry Doherty in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The company began very small and was named Cities Services Company. It provided gas and electricity to small, local, utility companies in the state.

History

Today, Citgo belongs in part to Petroleos de Venezuela and part to Rosnef, a Russian oil and gas company. Citgo is one of the world’s largest suppliers of gas, lubrication, and electrical services. In 2004, the company had an annual revenue of $32.02 billion and employs approximately 4,000 people in the US. The company has 3 oil refineries in the US and more than 140 facilities across the US. The company offers its own credit card for purchases at their facilities.

The company is a major sponsor of the Bassmaster Fishing Tour, and is also the sponsor of a charity golf tournament benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In 2016, the company donated half a million dollars to the presidential campaign of Donald Trump.

In November 2021, the company announced that it would be replacing two board members.

Also that same month, the company began new talks with the US government in an attempt to stave off bankruptcy and risk breaking up the company to pay outstanding debts.

Headquartered in the Energy Corridor area of Houston, Texas, it is majority-owned by PDVSA, a state-owned company of the Venezulean government (although due to U.S. sanctions, in 2019, they no longer economically benefit from Citgo).

Merrell was already making very expensive hiking boots, and with Matis and Schweizer’s help, they designed a high-quality boot that was more affordable.

History

Today, the company sells not only hiking boots but all around sneakers, sandals, uniform boots and shoes, as well as children’s shoes and clothing. Merrell Shoes acts as a subsidiary of Wolverine World Wide, who purchased the company in 1997. In 2010, the company had annual revenue of more than $500 million. Company products are sold in more than 151 countries and online.

In 2018, Merrell president Sue Rechner said in an interview that she was concerned about Trump’s lack of balance when it came to decision making.
