WeWork was founded in 2010 by friends and business partners Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey. Office space in New York is extremely expensive and finding, furnishing, and maintaining a nice office in an upscale neighborhood was out of the question for most small businesses.

This led Neumann and McKelvey to offer shared office space for entrepreneurs, start-up companies, or even for larger companies who want a satellite office but don’t want to pay for expensive office for only a handful of employees, such as PepsiCo, who rented space in 2011.

History

WeWork investors included J.P. Morgan, Wellington Management, Goldman Sachs, and Benchmark. Starting off with a single building in New York’s SoHo district, the company now has 270 locations in 90 cities. In July 2017, the company announced that it would expand into China and later that year, that it would expand into Southeast Asia.

In November of 2017, the company acquired MeetUp and a few months later, acquired Conductor.

In April of 2018, the company announced that it had merged its China operations with local competitor Naked Hub.

In November 2023, the company, once valued at $47 billion, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Colonel Eure and his wife Patti, opened a pizza and hamburger restaurant in his hometown of Stephenville, Texas after Mr. Eure retired. The couple moved a few years later to Austin, Texas, and opened another restaurant under the name The Pizza Place.

History

Unhappy with the generic sounding name, Colonel Eure held a naming contest. Eventually, the Colonel chose his wife’s maiden name of Gatti for the restaurant.

Colonel Eure sold 18 of his locations in 1974 but kept a few locations for himself. The company has changed hands several times over the years and currently is owned by Blue Sage Capital.

The company currently has 140 locations across the US. Some locations are branded as GattiTown or Gatti-Land. In addition to pizza, GattiTown locations offer arcades, games such as foosball or air hockey, bumper cars and miniature bowling or miniature golf.

Company headquarters are located in Austin, Texas.

Back in 1976, two friends in Colorado decided that they really missed old fashioned Chicago style pizza and decided to open their own restaurant. Originally named Old Chicago Pasta & Pizza, the restaurant chain was an immediate success.

The company was sold in 2013 to Craftworks Restaurant & Breweries, who changed the name to Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom. With 94 locations in 22 states, the company recently decided to open the business to franchising, with plans to open at least 28 restaurants in an additional 8 states.

History

Old Chicago Pizza is best known for their round, thick crust style pizza and craft beer selection. In 2017, the company added a lower priced appetizer selection, as well as increased their wing selection from 4 to 10 different flavors.

Old Chicago Pizza had annual revenue in 2016 of $254 million. Headquarters are now located in Broomfield, Colorado.

Bennett Auto Supply can trace its roots back to 1946 when Allen and Lettie Bennett opened a service station in Oakpark, Florida. The gas station also had a small grocery store and Allen used to repair bicycles and sell bicycle parts in the back.

History

By 1954, Bennett began selling tires and batteries to other service stations in the area. In 1957, the Bennett’s realized that auto parts were a major part of their overall business and decided to focus strictly on that. For better distribution, the company created a warehouse under the name Ben Clair, Inc.

The company expanded quickly in the 1960’s and is now the largest supplier of auto parts in southern Florida.

Bennett Auto Supply is still family owned and operated with Allen’s sons Barry and Harold as the executive team, as well as Allen’s grandchildren now working at the business.

The company has a 92,000 square foot warehouse and 34 locations throughout South Florida. Company headquarters are now located in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Arista Networks, originally named Arastra, was founded in 2004 by Andy Bechtolsheim & David Cheriton. This pair has occupied executive positions at Cisco Systems, Inc., leading the development of the Catalyst product line, along with Kenneth Duda who had been Granite Systems’ first employee. This trio developed Arastra (now Arista Networks).

Cheriton and Bechtolsheim financed the company themselves, after selling several other start-up companies in previous years.

History

The company provides cloud networking solutions in the US, Mexico, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific. Arista’s cloud networking solutions consist of its extensible operating systems, a set of network applications, as well as gigabit Ethernet switching and routing platforms, including universal leaf, spline, and universal spine products.

In May 2008, Jayshree Ullal left Cisco after 15 years at the company and was appointed CEO of Arista in October 2008.

In June 2014, the company went public on the NYSE under the ticker symbol: ANET.

In December 2014, Cisco filed two lawsuits against Arista alleging extensive intellectual property infringement. The decision was appealed to the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. A ban on certain Arista products was reversed in 2016 following product changes. Two Cisco patents were overturned, and Cisco’s claim of damages was ruled against.

In 20147, the company had annual revenue of $1.6 billion and employed 1800 persons. Company headquarters are located in Santa Clara, California.
