Chris Wilson founded Upper Edge Technology in 2011. While studying to do overseas mission work, Wilson began repairing and reselling Dell computer products. The business began in Wilson’s apartment but quickly outgrew that space.

Today, Upper Edge Technology occupies a warehouse with 50 employees. While the company still specializes in Dell laptop parts, the company also repairs and sells parts for multiple other brands including Lenovo, Asus, and Samsung.

The company tests each part and computer, and often times can repair and ship the same day. Upper Edge Technology currently has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Headquarters for the company are located in West Memphis, Arkansas.

T.J. Parker grew up working in his parent’s pharmacy, including delivering prescriptions to local customers. He saw from an early age how complicated multiple prescriptions could be. After receiving his pharmacy degree, he quickly realized the difficulty some clients had with prescriptions; everything from being unable to read the labels to not understanding exactly when or how they were supposed to take their medications.

While still in college, Parker began sorting pills into daily packages to make the process easier for customers. Soon, Parker and co-founder Elliot Cohen entered a start-up contest at MIT and by 2013, had raised more than $4 million in funding.

History

The company prepackages medications into daily or hourly envelopes with the time and day spelled out in large letters.

Within 2 years, the company had shipped more than 1 million packages. The idea was clearly a winner. Other companies began to take note and negotiations for the sale of the company began in 2017.

While Walmart had hoped to acquire the company, it was Amazon who was the winning bidder, acquiring the company for $1 billion in cash. (Other reports state it was $100 million)

CVS recently sued Amazon to prevent them from hiring former CVS executives. According to Forbes, this is because pharmacy retailers, such as CVS and Walgreens, are worried that Amazon will eliminate pharmacy benefits managers and deal directly with pharmaceutical companies, drastically cutting prices.

The corporate office for PillPack remains in Manchester, New Hampshire, at this time. It is unknown if Amazon will relocate the main office.

After moving into a new home, Joe Lunsford discovered that several furniture pieces had been damaged. He tried to get them repaired but was unhappy with the service and the work that was done. Lunsford began his own furniture repair service, Furniture Medic, in 1992.

ServiceMaster acquired the company in 1996. Today, there are 200 franchises across the US and the UK. Entrepreneur listed the company as #233 on their list of The Fastest Growing Franchises in the US in 2017.

History

The company was also listed as #26 on Entrepreneur’s list of Top 100 Franchises for Less than $100K in 2018.

The company offers furniture repair, restoration, and remodeling services. Furniture Medic recently introduced an app that allows potential clients to snap photos of damaged furniture and upload it to the Furniture Medic franchise nearest to them. Estimates for repairs can be given without a service call or dragging the furniture to the location.

Headquarters for Furniture Medic are located in Memphis, Tennessee.

JemJem was founded in 2014 by current CEO Jay Kim. Originally operating only through Amazon, the company began by offering self-manufactured Android-based tablets. After trying out Apple iPhones and tablets, Kim decided to begin refurbishing iPads for resale.

In 2017, the company collaborated with Walmart to sell their refurbished products through Walmart’s platform. All orders are handled through JemJem, including support, returns, and exchanges.

In 2018, the company received certified status for selling their refurbished Apple products on Amazon.

JemJem uses FedEx for delivery worldwide and offers ApplePay as its optimal transaction notification platform.

JemJem is the 3rd largest retailer of refurbished Apple products, according to the Huffington Post. In February 2018, the retailer announced that they would add Samsung refurbished phones to their product lineup with a 90-day warranty on Samsung phones.

The company also operates iPelican.Com, which buys used cell phones and tablets from consumers.

Headquarters are located in Newport Beach, California.

Brothers Larry and Jerry Potterfield decided to take their love of hunting and guns and turn it into a business. They opened a small store in Columbia, Missouri, in 1977. Larry bought out his brother’s share of the company in 1980. The company also had a small mail-order catalog which featured hand made ammo.

Today, the company is an online-only retailer offering guns, ammo, reloading supplies, military surplus items and more.

Potterfield is known to have an obsession with management practices, including Baldridge practice. The company is named after the town where the company was originally located.

After becoming frustrated with the Columbia City Council, Potterfield has threatened that he will run for Mayor.
