Friends since childhood, Chieh Huang, Christopher Cheung, and William Fong, along with Jared Yaman, came up with the idea of starting a mobile app for wholesale products in bulk, without the costly membership fees such as Costco.

The company began its business in 2013 and began shipping out of Huang’s garage. In 2014, Express was launched. This service is an on-demand grocery delivery service that was available in New York, New Jersey, and Boston. Customers picked their groceries, including fresh fruit and vegetables, then chose a day and time for delivery.

n June 2015, Boxed launched its premium private brand Prince & Spring. Many customers wonder what is the difference between Amazon and Boxed or Costco and Boxed? CNBC comparison shopped Costco and Boxed in April 2019. After comparing prices on 26 basic items, CNBC says that Costco came out to be less expensive.

History

The company partnered with Lidl in May 2019 to provide customers with fresh produce and other grocery products. Boxed also partnered with Century 21 stores (not the real estate company) in August 2019, to provide customers with designer brand clothing, something that Millenials have an interest in.

iFit

iFit was founded in 2013, but the parent company has been in the health and exercise business for far longer. iFit is an interactive, internet-connected platform that can bring together all exercise equipment under one log-in service.

iFit software is also connected to Google Maps, so users can experience a more natural workout. Personal trainers are also available. The current training programs are led by Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Jillian Michaels.

iFit also offers a line of wearable devices that work similarly to Fitbit or Jawbone. Wearable devices are compatible with both Android and IOS systems.

History

Peloton, which was launched the same year as iFit, was the popular choice, but that changed in 2019 when iFit took the lead and surged past Peloton.

In March 2023, both Peloton and iFit were hit with a US import ban on streaming technology.

DraftKings was founded by former VistaPrint employees Jason Robins, Matthew Kalish, and Paul Liberman. The company originally was operated out of Liberman’s house. The company’s first game was a one on one baseball competition and was designed to coincide with the MLB’s opening day in 2012.

The company operates a fantasy sports website and cell phone app that allows users to place bets on team competition for any team they would like, such as The Miami Dolphins vs The Dallas Cowboys.

In 2014, DraftKings entered into a two-year agreement with the National Hockey League. In 2015, the company entered into a three-year advertising agreement with ESPN.

History

In January 2020, Sports Illustrated stated that DraftKings had mounting losses and this was the reason behind the push for an IPO.

DraftKings is banned in some states, including Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, and Washington.

Before BlueVine, current CEO Lifshitz was a Principal at Greylock IL and an Associate at McKinsey. While working at Greylock. Lifshitz began to make a business plan that would allow small businesses to access loans and funds that would be easier than the current process.

The company offers financing for small businesses, including loans and lines of credit. In October 2019, the company announced that it had added small business banking services.

In December 2019, BlueVine announced that it was expanding its service in the silicon valley area of Salt Lake, Utah.

History

In late November 2019, BlueVine raised $102.5 million to build the next generation of small business banking and finance.

Terry Bader decided that he had had enough of paying outrageous prices for security systems and cameras that didn’t even give him a full view of the area! Guardzilla was founded in 2014.

The company designs and sells a variety of cameras and wireless systems that operate using a cell phone app. This means that customers only pay for the camera and there are no monthly charges.

Consumer Reports noted in October 2019 that many security cameras, such as Guardzilla’s come with security risks since they may be hacked.

The Better Business Bureau states that it appears Guardzilla is out of business since mail is being returned and there is no working phone number.
