Stanford graduates Kevin Taweel and Jim Ellis acquired Road Rescue, a Houston based roadside assistance service, in 1995. In 2000, this pair of businessmen purchased the Merrimac Group, which offers insurance for cell phones.

The company began expanding internationally in 2003, offering insurance on a variety of electronics including cell phones, satellite dishes, appliances, and jewelry. In 2014, Asurion partnered with America Movil, giving them access to all of Latin America.

In February 2017, Asurion launched its Simplr subsidiary to provide customer-service via on-demand staffing and machine learning. Through Soluto, the company acquired in Drippler, another tech support app company, and merged it with Soluto. In August 2019, Asurion acquired the uBreakiFix national cellular phone repair chain.

History

Market trends predict that mobile phone insurance plans are expected to have high growth through 2026.

Despite the coronavirus and subsequent quarantine, Asurion’s subsidiary, uBreakiFix opened 20 new locations in the third quarter of 2020.

In April 2023, Asurion added 700 new jobs in the Philippines, mainly for customer service and tech support.

Asurion maintains a corporate office in Nashville, Tennessee.

The logo of this franchise is a man wearing a fedora hat. “Patron” in Spanish can be translated to “the boss”.

The company’s slogan “Mas Pizza Menos Dinero” (More Pizza Less Money) was used between 2001 and 2017. The new slogan is “Pizza like a Boss”.

In 2012, Pizza Patron launched a free large pizza program to any customer who ordered in Spanish and asked for “Pizza Por Favor: (Pizza Please). While customer response was overwhelming, English Only organizations criticized the company.

In April 2020, the restaurant chain donated $20,000 to CitySquare Food Pantry to help those who were dealing with the effects of the coronavirus and the subsequent quarantine.

After suffering a stroke in 2002, Lisa Robinson realized that the need for in-home health care was large but the availability of these services was insufficient.

Lisa Robinson and Ronda Winfield founded My Independence at Home. The company is a full-service home healthcare agency providing more than just caregivers, but also certified nursing assistants, home health aides, personal care attendants, prescription delivery services, personal emergency response systems, and life preparedness consultations.

The company was named the 2018 Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year. MIAH was also featured in both Entrepreneur and Oprah magazines.

History

MIAH received a PPP loan in April 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent quarantine.

MIAH provides services for those living within the counties of Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia, Pennslyvania.

Wingstop was founded in 1994 in Garland, Texas, by Antonio Swad and Bernadette Fiaschetti. The pair already owned a Pizza Patron restaurant but wanted to create a restaurant that was fun and offered something unique.

Wingstop is a franchised restaurant chain that specializes in chicken wings and dipping sauces. Each location features an aviation theme with nostalgic tones from the 1930s and 1940s.

The company is currently owned by the Roark Capital Group and went public on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol WING in 2015.

History

As of 2018, the company has locations in 13 countries and more than 1,250 restaurants.

Wingstop was listed as the third fastest-growing restaurant chain in the US in 2015.

Despite the coronavirus, Wingstop offered shareholders dividends of 528% in October 2020.

This has lead hedge fund owners to continue to recommend Wingstop shares to their client’s portfolios.

Wingstop maintains a corporate office in Dallas, Texas, and has plans to build/renovate a new corporate office in Addison, Texas, soon.

Jay Albert opened his first furniture store in 1961 in Bristol, Connecticut, with the idea of offering quality furniture at a lower price.

Jay’s son, Mike, learned the business from the ground up, working in the store on weekends and holidays from the time he was in grade school. Mike became the CEO in 1984.

The company decided to expand to a second location in 2001 when a Levitz store went out of business. Pilgrim has since expanded to 4 locations in Southington, Milford, Manchester, and Danbury, Connecticut.

History

Pilgrim Furniture is well-known in the community for sponsoring events such as the United Way, the YMCA, Relay for Life, the East Farmington Fire Department, Ronald McDonald House, and Toys for Tots.

The company offers free same-day delivery for orders placed before 3 PM.
