Homeward enables agents to let clients buy the home they want using an all-cash offer, and then sell their current property at full market value. The company is expanding in Texas, Georgia, and Colorado, with plans to offer its solution to agents and homebuyers nationwide.

History

The company raised $105 million in equity funding in May 2020. The company said that it would use the funding to buy more homes for its customers and expand its agent partnerships.

Charles Nichols started a small convenience store in 1971, selling groceries, gas, and propane tank refills.

His sons, Ken, Dean, and Phil, took over the business and expanded it, creating Nichols Propane apart from the convenience stores.

The brothers also own the 16 store chain of convenience stores, now called Nic’s Pic Kwik, which still offer propane tank refills.

History

Dean Nichols was named Citizen of the Year by Richmond Community College in 2019.

Nichols Propane is perhaps best known for its no-fee tank rental feature. The company maintains a corporate office in Laurinburg, North Carolina.

United Dwelling was founded in 2018 in Los Angeles, California. The company allows homeowners to build a second home on their residential zoned property and/or converts the garage into a small home, finds a tenant the homeowner approves, manages it, and shares the rental income with the homeowner.

These rental homes, known as Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), come at absolutely no cost to the homeowner.

History

United Dwelling handles every aspect of the process including permits, partnering with a contractor for construction, finding qualified tenants that the homeowner will approve, managing, and maintaining the property.

It targets mostly low income and middle-income neighborhoods, with some exceptions for workforce housing.

With a vast housing shortage causing rising prices, United Dwelling has found a very positive reception.

In 1981, Kathi and Kevin Blackwell started their own juice company, Surf City Squeeze. This later became a franchise.

Over the years, Surf City Squeeze was acquired by other companies, which also acquired larger companies. Today, these brands are all brought together under one name; Kahala Brands.

Some of the franchised names that Kahala owns include Blimpies, Pinkberry, Cold Stone Creamery, Salsa Catering, Planet Smoothie, and Baja Fresh.

History

In July 2016, MTY Food Group acquired Kahala Brands for $310 million.

In May 2020, two of Kahala Brands franchises, Baja Fresh and The Counter Custom Burger, opened ghost kitchens to produce meals in less than 300 square feet of kitchen space.

In September 2019, Kahala Brands franchises began offering delivery service via PostMates.

Kahala Brands corporate office will remain in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Suburban Furniture is a New Jersey-based furniture and mattress retailer. The company currently has 7 locations and a large warehouse for same-day pickup and delivery in Mine Hill, New Jersey.

While the coronavirus crisis shut down the company for a few weeks, CEO and owner Kenneth Luthy states that business is back to normal at this time.

A new shutdown might happen, however, near the end of 2020 or the first part of 2021.
