Ethan Allen Furniture was founded in 1932 by two brother in laws, who originally purchased a housewares factory, then acquired a furniture business that was in bankruptcy. The name is for the Vermont revolutionary leader of the same name.
Today, Ethan Allen is one of the best known names in quality furniture in the US. The company makes customized furniture, mostly in the US, for stores in all 50 states. More than seventy percent of its cherry, maple, and alder wood pieces are crafted in the United States in factories such as Maiden, North Carolina.
The company is publicly traded on the NYSE under the ticker symbol: ETH. In 2017, the company had annual revenue of $763.38 million and employs more than 5,000 persons.
